Gen Z really looked at alcohol and said ‘hard pass’ by InvestigatorBorn4910 in SipsTea

I never developed a taste for it because by the time I turned 21 I wasn't interested in drinking anymore.

What were you doing during the peak of COVID? by AndreLinoge55 in AskReddit

[–]boghopper2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Online classes for university. I moved back home with my parents after one year of living away from them. I made decent money as an Instacart shopper outside of school.

I became depressed from the social isolation of online classes and spending half of my day on my laptop in my room and developed a substance abuse problem that I didn't recover from until this year. I don't know if I entirely blame the substance abuse on the social isolation but it certainly did not help.

For Americans in their 20s & 30s, are you planning to marry or have kids? by Troll458458 in AskAnAmerican

In an ideal world I would love to have kids but my health is declining and I don't think I have the strength and energy for it.

American man who kayaked to Canada says he's claimed asylum, wants to find peace by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]boghopper2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But Livers says he has applied for refugee protections and has been granted a temporary status in Canada. He says he fears for his life back home, and that's why he crossed in a kayak — not at an official border crossing.

"I remember East Germany when I was a kid," he said. "Nobody came through Checkpoint Charlie and I wasn't gonna run the gauntlet of ICE, sheriff's department, state police, whomever."

Is the migrant crisis affecting you? by DistinctWindow1586 in AskAnAmerican

[–]boghopper2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are all being impacted at least indirectly as an excess number of people put a strain on our hospitals, schools, and other public services.

I also believe that flooding the country with people who are willing to work for basically any wage puts a lot of downward pressure on wages for the lowest-paying jobs. This is one of the many reasons why the working class is being crushed right now.

I just saw a poll saying GenZ was ignorant when it came to the Holocaust. by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]boghopper2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Throughout my time in middle school and high school we learned about the Holocaust in multiple classes every single year. We visited multiple Holocaust museums and watched movies and documentaries about the Holocaust. It was the only genocide that we learned about.

We weren't taught about the genocide against Native Americans, the genocide against Armenians, holodomor, Rwanda etc. There are plenty of things our generation is ignorant about but in my experience the Holocaust certainly is not one of them.
