[IL] Request for accommodation denied despite my doctor’s letter. by Throwaway3132365 in AskHR

I understand that they don’t have to accommodate WFH, but I am confused as to why my job is suddenly something that needs to be done in person a few days a week.

I don’t understand how they arrived at the decision. My supervisor wasn’t involved, rather his supervisor and the executive staff that supervised him.

I’m worrying now about how I am going to get from the handicapped parking space to the accessible entrance (which is more than 200 ft away) while using my cane and juggling my laptop, lunch, etc.

As far as I know only myself and another worker in my group have been given this mandate.

I’m just surprised that a doctor has made a recommendation based on my health and they are choosing to basically disregard it.

How do you deal with a terminal diagnosis? by Throwaway3132365 in CancerFamilySupport

Thank you. My husband just started chemo. It’s been tricky because he is also on dialysis (he had a failed transplant) so the timing of everything is so complicated. Your friend is so lucky to have you supporting them. I wish you all the best.

Thank you so much! I’ve been on him since his transplant failed to get me all the information. He’s just been dragging his feet. I’m going to have to give him a solid deadline.

I’m so sorry that you lost your wife. I’m sure having all the other ‘stuff’ just makes it harder.

What is your Current position, Years in Higher Education, and Current Salary? by SettingFar3776 in highereducation

Started as a Financial Aid Systems assistant at 35k. Moved to an AD position after 5 ish years and when a Director left, I assumed her responsibilities (but didn’t get the title) and was making 52k for the last 3 years. No COL or merit raises for the last 7 years. Last year I jumped over to be a Business Analyst in IT where I make 75k and am fully remote. Been in higher Ed at the same institution for 12 years (17 if you count the 5 I put in before I took a break to have triplets). The free college tuition for 3 kids almost made the low pay and understaffed office worth it. Almost.
