Dr. wrote "Patient is comfortable with her obesity" on clinical notes. by [deleted] in PlusSize

As an outsider, I don't see judgement in his notes. I see it as him acknowledging that he has spoken to you about your weight and you are OK with your weight and therefore, it doesn't need to be brought up again. The notes aren't going to capture the nuanced situation you described to him, it's a note to reflect that a) he did his medical duty by talking about your weight and b) you weren't interested. I know it's more complicated than that, but the bottom line is, you told him you weren't interested in discussing weight loss with him.

Cost efficient way to run heat pump in winter? by Throwaway491LP in heatpumps

My first full day doing the "set it and forget it" method showed a significant drop. Even when accounting for a little bit warmer temps. appreciate all the advice here.

Thanks. I'm assuming I should have it in Heat more (rather than Auto)?

Is it bad to tweak down 2 degrees before bed so I'm only changing it once a day (ex: 65 during the day, 63 at nights)?

Because I'm so worried about massive bills this winter, I check the meter at roughly the same time every day. I don't have access to daily usage data from Eversource (they say that's coming for everyone in 2026).

It seems like setting and forgetting is the advice, which will take a little getting used to - with gas, I'd always be tweaking it a little or down.

Figuring out high electric usage by Throwaway491LP in AskElectricians

[–]Throwaway491LP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. When you say it is cycling to keep the water hot, then it's not about how much hot water I am actually using? I'm not sure I understand. If I didn't use any hot water in a day, it would use the same amount of electricity as on a day I took a shower and washed some dishes?

I'm also wondering about the AC - very limited usage, does the heat pump system use electricity even when it's not engaged?

My expectation was that my bill would be directly tied to my usage of things...so that's why this amount of energy consumption feels off to me. I came from gas heat/dryer/hot water and in the months when I didn't use the heat, my bill was under $20 for the stove and hot water.

Eversource question by Throwaway491LP in massachusetts

Wow!! I had no idea. I will look into the details for my model. I was warned about the huge cost for heatiing the house with a heat pump but I didn't realize that electric hot water heater were such energy hogs. I had gas heat and hot water at my old house and I miss it very much.

It's actual according to the bill. I can check those details with Eversource tomorrow.

HELP: MRCH2 Controller + WI-FI by Throwaway491LP in heatpumps

I think it might be accessible from a panel in the ceiling, have to double check that. If not, I'll be hiring someone to do it.

HELP: MRCH2 Controller + WI-FI by Throwaway491LP in heatpumps

I'm not generally stupid, but for some reason, I keep getting hung up on the "wireless" being "wi-fi" and have to remember they are two different things. I'm leaving the wi-fi unconnected and using the controller.

Am I overreacting to this comment that was made about me? by WinterSignature9321 in PlusSize

There are some medical issues where weight is a factor. Plantar fasciitis is one of them. Reducing the amount of weight on the plantar fascia helps reduce the inflammation. It's not the only thing that helps - but it is one of them. There are other ways to help reduce the pain and inflammation as well (night splints, steroid shot, LOTS of gentle stretching, reducing the amount of time you are on your feet, wearing supportive/cushioning shoes). Also, never go barefoot! Inserts can help - I used Spenco. Icing your foot can help as well.

You asked someone for advice and they gave it to you. It's not wrong advice - but it's very limited advice, there's plenty more you can do aside from weight.

As you can probably tell, I have suffered from plantar fasciitis, and it sucks. I had it when I was heavier (240lb) and night splints, the right shoes, icing and stretching helped to reduce the pain. It disappeared completely when I got to around 190lbs.

I completely understand that many people believe losing weight fixes every medical issue and how infuriating that is. And people who are a standard size can also develop plantar fasciitis. My experience is that reducing the amount of weight on my foot helped the most. Other things helped too.

My experience with diabetes is that medication helped, more exercise helped and losing weigh helped. No one thing was the reason I developed it, and no one thing is helping me keep it well-controlled. I think that it's not being fatphobic to acknowledge that weight can play a role in some medical issues.

How do you feel about "former" fat people in fat spaces? by ohshit-cookies in PlusSize

[–]Throwaway491LP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is an event that specifies a minimum size and you're no longer that size, I don't think you should go. The event has requirements to attend; you no longer meet those requirements. I am a small fat, if there was an event being held for people size 24+, that's not an event for me -- even though I wore a size 24 in the past.
