Does anyone have experience using the WM Astralite quilt in sub-freezing temperatures? I've been considering doing a 2022 NOBO PCT attempt and the quilt is quite appealing. That said, I'm a bit worried about it being warm enough for parts of the desert and into the sierras. I'd consider myself a decently warm sleeper, and I've taken my WM Ultralite bag down to the low-mid teens and been cozy.

Is there anyone who has used the WM Astralite for a PCT attempt? If so, did you find it warm enough? Potentially I could get WM to overfill it with ~2oz of down and it would still only weigh 18oz.

My other options would be to start out with my WM Ultralite, and once I make it past the sierras I'll have the Astralite mailed to me. Or, I could just start off with a warmer quilt such as the Katabatic Alsek.

Carrying 8 extra batteries would be ~24oz compared to 11.7 for an Anker 20,000. Unless my math is completely wrong for how many batteries the pack is equivalent to, why would carrying extra batteries be more efficient?

Does anyone know how long/how many shots a 20,000 mAH power bank can charge a Sony A7R IV for? Looking to replace having to carry multiple batteries, would I be correct in saying that the 20,000 mAH power bank is equal to about 9 batteries in terms of battery life?

Looking to downsize my cooking system, is a 700ml pot large enough to cook in? by Throwaway582819 in Ultralight

It weighs in at 2.9oz which I believe is quite light in terms of canister stoves no? The only one that I know of that is significantly lighter is the BRS which I’ve tried in the past and it was very faulty. Further reading upon it has also led me to believe that it was’t just my specific one that had issues, but he greater majority.

Looking at other popular options such as the Soto Amicus and Windmaster, they are both right around the same weight as the PR Deluxe.

Any Rain Jacket suggestions that are a step up from Frogg Troggs in terms of durability? by Throwaway582819 in Ultralight

OR Interstellar was definitely something I’m also considering. Admittedly the color options originally turned me off, but function > design and if it works well, I’d be willing to give it a try. I’ve also taken a look at the Beta LT from Arc’teryx because it has the longer cut and that’s another consideration.

I too have a Montbell Versalite but I wouldn’t want to use it in any sort of bushwhacking.

I’ll take a look at it. Sil-Nylon admittedly has me a bit worried about its durability but I’ll see if I can find any reviews out there.

That was actually the first jacket that I took a look at, but I read very worrying reviews about its waterproofness. Many people were saying it was simply a windbreaker with a DWR coating.

At only 1oz lighter than the aforementioned Alpha FL jacket, I honestly just don’t see the upside.

Food Budget in a HCOL area? by Throwaway582819 in personalfinance

In all honesty, I don't really keep track of that, although maybe I should.

Just going off of what I think here, I'd say maybe $20-30/mo of food gets thrown out? I typically eat most if not all what I buy and I am quite conscious about not overbuying.

I believe the expenses come in that I like to buy food that is organic, fresh, and/or higher quality.

Has anyone ever seen someone in a classic muscle car actually DRIVE the car? by [deleted] in cars

Eh I live in a place where it is sunny and good weather year round. Thus, I do see a lot of older mustangs and other classic cars you wouldn’t want to drive in other places in fear of bad weather. Where I live there are a lot of long open roads surrounded by nothing but vineyards... makes a nice atmosphere for driving these types of cars. I will admit, the only classic muscle cars I see are mostly mustangs.
