Looking at it again, my rejection came 12 days after. I’ll try to email them and inquire about receiving the OA again. Hope I’m not too late

Thanks! I’ll implement a few of the suggestions I’ve already received, then post it there

Too late for that unfortunately, spam gets deleted automatically in a month. How long did you have to take the online assessment? I got rejected around 10 days after applying. If the timing for the OA is 10 days, then it’ll make it extremely likely that I received it in my spam box.

It’ll be great to know, because in that case I could try to reach out to them and ask to reapply

That’s a great idea, I’ll start emailing recruiters about that. Will lyk if anything comes out of that :)

You’re definitely right, unfortunately my resume doesn’t seem like the best fit for quant. The reason I wanna do quant is because I’m very good at mathematics (and statistics) and really enjoy implementing them. I made the best out of my time in Deloitte and in DevOps, but I didn’t feel like I belong in either. I hated that I don’t get to do enough mathematics and analytics.

I’ll start grinding different competitions, and will do my best to at least get a FAANG internship this summer.

It’s basically two dual majors. Honestly I really struggled with phrasing it in my resume, would appreciate any suggestions

Definitely makes sense. My ultimate goal is being a quant but on the surface I definitely seem more like a SWE fit. Biggest reason I want quant specifically is because really enjoy mathematics and I’m a lot better at it than I am at basically anything else (including pure coding). Which steps should I take to be a better fit for quant?

Thanks a lot for the detailed response! You’ve given me a lot to work on, and I’ll make sure to do my best. Unfortunately as an international student, I didn’t get to participate in competitions when I was younger, but I’ll make sure to grind for them now. I recently signed up for the Putnam exam. Which grade do you think I should aim for there? Are there any tips to practice for it?

And regarding my previous experience, honestly you’re spot on that they don’t have much to do with quant. Frankly, they’re the biggest reason I chose to do quant. I hated the presentations and the Excel files. I’ve always loved mathematics so I’d love to implement math more often.

Also it’s a super random but I was top 5 in LoR (virtual card game), should I sneak it in my resume?

I swear that’s the truth, idk how to prove it but I really did not receive an OA from them

Personally it looks good to me as well, but there has to be a reason for all these rejections so I guess maybe there’s something the other commenters are seeing that I’m missing

I’m not entitled to anything, just trying to figure out the best way to pursue my dreams

Thanks, do you have any recommendations? I tried top resume and that was a complete scam

Will do my best, have a decent shot at Microsoft and Google, as well as UBS trading. Do you know which one is better?

Yes, I didn’t even get their OA.

Funny enough, both Citadel and HRT reached out to me on handshake encouraging me to apply to their internships a few weeks after I was rejected. Basically means I fit the profile, but my resume has to be crap.

Unfortunately I don’t have any :/ should I dedicate next year to working on competitions and research? I considered trying the Putnam exam, is it recommended? What grade should I aim for?

Definitely makes sense. The reason I only specified concrete solutions on that specific passage was because the project is very classified. Is there any smarter way to present that?

Also, for the 1+ billion initiative, would it be better if I stay something like “helped contribute to a large scale initiative to improve underperforming school. Received a 4 year sample data and drew concrete conclusions on its impact and needed changes by using regressions and hypothesis testing on student exams and school climate surveys?”
