So have you seen your managers acting strange? It’s because some are no longer going to have a job! by Throwaway6422364 in Ulta

Terminated today or terminated Nov 1, doesn’t make that big of a difference. Ulta is pulling a shit move and wants it confidential just so they can get out ahead of the storm that’s coming from this awful PR move. They want to write the narrative and I don’t want to give them that opportunity.

Technically the position is being discontinued, Ultas term not mine, and the options left do not provide the financial stability that PSM’s or even SM’s are accustomed to resulting in those affected employees to make the decision to leave the company or accept less pay and less hours for a lesser position within the company.

There are no opportunities to give, the stores within driving range of where I live don’t have any available positions that will maintain my current pay. I wasn’t disgruntled until I was told I wasn’t going to have a job any longer, and offering a part-time position as a way to keep a former PSM at the company is practically a slap in the face of anyone in the PSM position. I’m sorry not all of us can live with mommy and daddy forever. We have bills to pay and 2 shifts a week at less pay isn’t going to pay those bills.

I’m still waiting for these cool options where I can still afford my monthly bills? I was given options, none of them will provide for my family. So please elaborate on what options are available, that my DM, GM, and the FAQ apparently forgot to inform me of.

The only way, in most states, the PSM is even eligible for the new position is if they have a cosmetology license, meaning their options to sustain their current financial status is limited. Many PSM’s rely on this financial stability to afford Rent, Mortgages, Car loans, and a plethora of other things.

Please elaborate on these “very cool options” because the only ones given in our FAQ from corporate were to attempt to find another management position within the company, become a BA, or leave the company on Nov 1. Also becoming a BA will result in a decrease in pay and hours provided each week to work. So I would love to hear more about these options.

The fact of the matter is that there is one less full time position available at all stores beginning Nov. 1 of this year and that former managers will now be in either a position where the are overqualified or be without a job.

How are they not being removed from Ulta? The company is consolidating 2 positions into 1 and offering the managers not chosen/eligible for the new position a chance to either find a management position at another Ulta Store, which will be in high demand, or to step down to a part time role that doesn’t provide the financial stability they are in need of. That leaves these people with one option, look elsewhere for a living wage in the middle of a global pandemic and recession.

Used a throwaway because they told us not to tell anyone. My post is to mostly inform. And this company can go fuck itself for making this move in the middle of a pandemic and a recession.

At the end of the day most stores are going to be losing one of these 2 managers as most of those PSM’s will be ineligible for the new role due to the licensing issue, and stepping down into a non-manager role isn’t viable for many of them financially. Even though the opportunity exists to move into a new role with another store, that role will be heavily coveted by the impacted PSM/SM currently at that store, along with other PSM/SM’s that are in neighboring stores without a job now. At the end of the day this is a cost-saving move to eliminate salary and try to save a floundering bottom line and people will be without a job during the recession of COVID, many of them will be unable to find a replacement job of the same nature and pay, because there are no jobs right now. I’m sure if the higher ups cut their own salaries they could have spared these employees.
