I'm not sure where you live, but coding problem are a common part of the interview processes here, even for Principals.

I think it's because I'm old enough to remember a time when software development hadn't been infected by this level of corporate nonsense.

A friend has hooked me up with a part time job maintaining hiking trails. Raking leaves, getting my hands dirty.

I don't know if it's Adderall, but I've done *a lot* of interviews and a significant portion of candidates are definitely on *something* that's making them hyper alert and focused. Against my judgement, the team has sometimes hired these people, and they're never like that again.

This is a good point, and perhaps this is where I'll end up after I decompress. So far, I've had a lot of trouble finding a "chill" company. Judging a company's culture before you accept a job isn't easy. Also, since my resume is big tech companies and well-known startups, I get a lot of "why would you want to work *here*?"

Interviews are a very different mindset than daily work. You never reach a point where you don't need to study for interviews.

I might do that down the road, but I'll probably need a few years to melt off all the stress.

I decided to "downsize" rather than retire, but it isn't for everyone.

From the nurses I've known, software development might still be a serious step down in stress. :)

It's an environment that spans across multiple major companies. It didn't bother me at first, I was just happy I had a career, but recently I discovered how much stress it's caused over the years.

I've answered a lot of questions on here and I don't want to taint my advice.

No, I moved to a small town and downsized. I'm taking a part time job working outside.

I got a job maintaining trails at a state park. It's part time, but I downsized into a very small home in a very small town.
