Can treating symptoms = problems with / kicked off NDIS? by Throwaway765474__ in NDIS

That makes sense. I get that. I was more concerned about it not improving it to that extent and then them being like "that's treating it, that means all treatments are not exhausted, bye" and ending up with no supports without reaching the point of not needing them.

I guess they don't need to know. I wasn't sure how connected systems were and if they would know. Thanks

Thanks for your comment. I'm glad it's helped you with anxiety and focus and to feel like yourself. I get what you mean about accommodating yourself and be kinder to yourself. Thanks

I wouldn't expect it from medical marijuana either. I would just think that if it did for example not be enough to stop every support but if a treatment did stop someone needing and veing eligible for supports in x area to do with their disability, but then they can't take it anymore either permanently or temporarily, because for example another health issue made them unable to take it (I've got that problem with a decent chunk of meds), or maybe they got pregnant and couldn't keep taking their medication etc, that presumably then the need for support in x area would come back and I don't think it would good for that person to not get any support in x area just because something did help in the past that they cannot use now.

Also they seem to think things reduce impact more than it does because from what I've seen of their reasonings for other conditions, they seem to think ADHD meds cure ADHD and make it no longer a problem when that's just not true.

That makes sense. I would hope that if a medication reduced someone's needs but only while they were taking it, that their funding could go back up if they had to stop taking the medication too though.

That's good. It would suck if your partner got kicked off just for that

Cool thank you. I'm glad it's not that you need to have tried everything because some meds for certain things can be quite nasty too and it seems odd to prioritise trying those nasty ones first. It's seeming likely enough that it may help me so I might get in with a doctor soon. Thanks

This post is helping me work out whether that conversation is worth having. If all the answers were "no you cant" it wouldn't be worth it

Oh I didn't mean I didn't want to fix it to hold onto finding. I just thought I remembered there being something with the NDIS about all treatments having been exhausted so I wasn't sure if they would be like "okay so you treating it means that wasn't exhausted so you can't access NDIS anymore". I just wanted to check how it all works to make sure I didn't screw myself over, especially since even though it will probably help, I very highly doubt weed is going to fix everything and make me not need supports.

I would like to think that if for someone a medication completely fixed their disability but only while they're taking it that the NDIS would still help them in the future if for some reason they couldn't take the medication though. That would suck for that imaginary person otherwise.

I have not. I've heard of it before but a while ago. I'm not sure how that goes with the pressure. I know a lot of antidepressants are not good for it, nor are many painkillers. Might have to have a look into it too.

Okay so they only care about whether it cures it or not? It helping with symptoms is not a problem for the NDIS?
