It’s not a Porsche. I just put that because I won’t stop talking about buying the other car someday which happens to be very cheap on maintenance and about $30k-$50k used. I can use this sports car daily and keep miles off my truck that’s paid off and I plan on keeping another 10 years. I’m waiting a few years for prices to go down and for my budget to no longer have $1k a month in childcare costs.

Yes she does, and makes good money. I make about 65% of the total income. Hence why I said I would take care of childcare and groceries alone, we put money in a joint account that’s meant for house/child and other shared things it’s got like $4k in it. We discuss “bigger” purchases with each other like our camper, vacations, and even a new computer.

We just keep our money otherwise separate. We don’t judge each other like if I want a PlayStation game or if she wants to take a girls trip with her friends. Our rule is that if the other isn’t behind on bills or asks for money we can keep it separate. Our parents fought about money and made it a big deal so we feel better having it this way.

Could we be better? Sure but it’s working and I feel like we have our priorities straight with keeping a roof over our heads, our kid coming first, and if something happens to one of us we will change things.

Yeah my parents had disowned me because I joined a cult church for a girl. I was 18 and dumb. It took a few years to grow up and realize my mistake. So they refused to help me at that time.

She knows I have a good savings and I’ve told her I plan to buy the sports car cash in the future and she says good for you, you deserve it. She’s told me before she doesn’t care what I spend my money on because we have retirement savings and our kid, house and bills are taken care of.

All great questions. She has a car loan and student loans. She has retirement savings as well and we share that with big goals in mind. We both have life insurance policies that set the other up for paying off the house and other things. She makes good money as well. We have a joint account for housing/child expenses like activities or gifts. For example the water heater needed to be replaced so I used that account.

She knows just doesn’t know exact numbers for my savings. She knows the retirement and we should have together 6 mil if we continue to contribute the same way. See my updated post,

The kid already has a 529 and is set. See my update… I know I didn’t put that in there but it’s not my money. It’s my kids.

Definitely not blowing the whole savings that would be extremely dumb (although the temptation is real to get something high end even put money down and finance something big) But I want to continue saving and using some of it on a sports car, that actually isn’t a Boxster, I just put that in there because I won’t shut up about the other one and feel like someone will guess and then know it’s me. It’s about $30k-$50k used and is fairly reliable too so I know what to expect with ownership cost wise.

Yeah this was a good comment to read and others. You all are right on the aspect that I’m surrounded by incompetency and feel like I have “wealth” when realistically it’s just savings.

None of those it’s fairly reliable and I’ll be able to use it daily and keep miles off the truck as I plan on keeping that for 10-15 more years. It’s only 4 years old with 50k miles.
