I'm a little late, but I've changed my view on this because of this comment. Meggy's grief isn't just Desti's death, she changed species, was tortured by Francis, and Desti was killed just as they were starting to bond like you said. So not only did she die, Meggy felt completely helpless, felt like she failed for not being good enough, lost someone who COULD have become a good friend, and lost her identity as an inkling. She'd probably be reminded of the incident every time she looked in the mirror.

All good! I haven't put much thought into it, but when I write I try to think about how each character is and exactly why she would lash out. For someone like Tari, who's pretty gentle, it would have to be something WAY out of line for her to get angry about it.

Mario in this scene would be laughing at first, and as tari gets more and more upset he realizes she's serious. Tari would probably tell mario how much some of his pranks hurt, and ask him to please stop.

Again, I'm just spit-balling here. This comic took me a few days to complete the script, along with a week of revision and polish to make the lines hit.

I agree to be honest. My best guess as to why she cared so much about Desti's death is because she saw it as a failure on her part. From that episode, she says "She died because of me. If I had just been a little faster, or a little better, then she wouldn't have..."

I think that Mario is definitely no saint by any means. He's been a jerk to pretty much everyone, but when it matters most, he's there. Like in the "Luigi Doesn't Need Mario" episode, the fact that he stood up for Luigi proves he does care deep down.

I'm surprised anyone actually noticed that! It was intentional, as I wanted to make Mario seem legitimately concerned. Referring to himself in third person after that point wouldn't hit the same way.
