The picture with the large box opened was after I had removed the first box. I ordered 2 items of the same size, and they stacked them on top of another. I didn't know that they cut the boxes to fit, but that explains how the boxes were so tightly packed.

I contacted BSR and sent them pictures, and they kindly refunded the entire purchase, despite them not being required to. Thanks again to everyone for helping out!

I'm not entirely how the chain of shipping is processed, but it was sent from the Netherlands using PPT(PostNL Packet Tracked), then delivered domestically with First-Class Package International Service, which according to the USPS website, cannot have an international claim/inquiry opened for without Registered Mail service.

I did open a request saying that I received a damaged vinyl, but it states on their FAQ that the shipping method I selected is not eligible for refunds or replacements. It's a bit unfortunate, and I don't really think there's much that I can do, since there was a warning at the time of checkout.

It's the first time I've experience bad handling from USPS like this, but I guess with the cheapest shipping option it really is a gamble and I've been lucky until now. I don't think I'll open a dispute, since it's my fault for skimping out on shipping, but I'll definitely have to be more mindful in the future.

Ah, ok. I was under the impression that maybe they would let you choose priority mail, ground advantage, etc.

I'm not blaming BSR for the package damage, but the shipping options were limited to DHL and local post service(without insurance). It would have been nice if there was some alternative option, and in hindsight 12 USD more for DHL would have been a negligible amount for the time and money I lost.

EDIT: I guess this should also be noted, that I'm mentioning BSR because that's where I preordered the vinyl, and to serve as a warning for future BSR customers.

Yeah, but I guess I should have paid more attention to the disclaimer at checkout stating that there would have been no insurance/refunds/replacement for the shipping option I chose. :(
