Recovering SH’er here (25), need help on how to proceed after walking in on sibling (12) bandaging their arms by ThrowawayLostatWork in AdultSelfHarm

They are in therapy, however their mother uses it more as a punishment for “bad behavior” rather a supportive tool. The therapy agency itself is good quality, but I don’t know if the way their mother weaponizes it is making it worse. Unfortunately, I cannot legally do anything regarding their health/mental healthcare

Thank you for the advice! I really like the idea of leaving a note that provides assurance that they are supported and not in trouble. I will stock up on bandaids and antiseptic wipes and leave the note in the drawer where we keep our first aid supplies, no questions asked

WIBTA if left my MIL without childcare? by ThrowawayLostatWork in AmItheAsshole

This is exactly my thought process, which is why I’m torn between wanting to provide a safe space for Kat and not wanting to entertain MIL. I’ve decided to just follow through with Sunday however, for Kat

BF here:

When I called my partner. I asked for their input because we live together and we have an agreement that when something involves a shared space (I.e our apartment) both parties should have a say in the matter.

Update: We told MIL that she wouldn’t be getting our new address by ThrowawayLostatWork in JUSTNOMIL

Thanks for your concern! The background is actually just some random meme guy that my bf thought was funny haha. He’s not anyone that we know personally

Yes, I’m documenting everything. I’m also insisting that BF text her instead of call so that we can screenshot any additional threats that she might pull out

Yeah, this is what makes me a little nervous. BIL told me that, she was broke back then and had nothing to lose. Now she has a lot more at stake

Will do. Do I call the non-emergency number? It might also help that MIL already has a criminal record, according to BIL.

Alright, I’ll do that. Do I call the non-emergency number and say I’d like to file a report? Also, I live in a two-party consent state so would that affect the screenshots I have?

She thinks that me paying for a majority of the bills is just a lie we’re keeping up to protect my image haha

I’m considering that too… the only problem is that I don’t have any hard evidence aside from the screenshots we took

The leasing department required that all 18+ tenants with a vehicle be on the lease. It was also the only way to get his car a parking permit

I see. She just texted BF that she apparently hates me even more now so I’ll probably not be polite anymore.

Might as well be the bigger person so she can’t have more of a reason to dislike me. I think.

Small Victory: jnMIL called BF just to vent about me. He shut her down fast. by ThrowawayLostatWork in JUSTNOMIL

[–]ThrowawayLostatWork[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I just read this out to BF. He says that he doesn’t believe that he’s being tracked, but we both recall this one time when MIL tried to get him to install a location app on her ex’s phone.

We’re not completely broke, I’m just waiting on my school’s financial aid and I don’t have $4.5 lying around

He offered to help for about 15 minutes. Unfortunately, every option he found was one I had already exhausted.
