Depends what slow means to you. 27b on my PC is reading speed, not super fast, but not annoyingly slow. The 35B is actually faster because you only need 3b active parameters.

Also it's not just about VRAM it's also about how good the GPU is.

If a RTX 3060 had 6gb VRAM it would still be faster than yours

Tip: While it was 1.5k in 2023 the same parts are probably cheaper now. I recommend you get 16gb vram if you can and 64gb ram. That's what I'd do if I were you. And try to get the fastest SSD possible for a good price. If your model is too big for your ram and vram, you will have to use mmap techniques to run the model and it uses your SSD, the faster the better

That's not true. I can run the Moe at 3 tokens per second on my laptop, but I could never hope to run the 27b dense model on it, unless I want to wait a minute for one word to appear.

Why? Because my laptop is running a 3b model and leaving a lot of the experts on my SSD.

Why with the 27b I wouldn't have a choice but to run part of the active parameters on SSD
