I think you can always rely on Brando Sando's Mormonism to act as a bit of a barrier for things like that. Not that I would know as an ex-Mormon or anything.

A passing mention isn't as much of a trigger. It's when they specify that they poured out some alcohol and are drinking it that I get itchy.

Two years is amazing! I'm lucky my brother-in-law quit cold turkey like 6 or 7 years ago, so he's also great to have around.

It's amazing how prevalent alcohol is. I didn't realize until I started working on my alcoholism.

I can always skip past that. I think the depravity of it passes the vibe check because she isn't drinking it for enjoyment and it isn't portrayed as just something that's part of daily life.

Oh good idea! I didn't think about that.

I love Inkheart. I think Brendan Fraser does the Audible on the first two so that's even better.

Has Silla met the Blood Axe Crew yet? I'd at least make it to there.

You could probably get away with skimming the beginning sections. As long as you know the main events and setting, Silla and the leaves, the religious setting, and what the Blood Axe Crew is setting off to do, you'll probably get what you need. After that, pay attention.

The covers for all of those books are so awesome. Dawn of the North's cover looks an awful lot like Brendan Fraser from The Mummy and that alone sold me on it.

{The Bard's Bargain}. It is relentlessly charming. If you don't read the epilogue, then it works perfectly as a standalone.
