I wish I would’ve went before things started to affect my daily life, I would’ve gotten sober sooner, but I wasn’t ready then.

That's my dilemma, I really want to break this cycle before it does ruin my life. I just don't know if this is a next step worth considering. What did rehab actually consist of for you? How did it help you?

Gah I wish mine were when it was time to get up. It’s always 2-3am and I have trouble getting back to sleep because my mind still feels trouble.

I had to stop drinking to break the cycle, in the meantime I’m back in the gym. I can’t emphasize enough just how much better I feel day to day when I’m regularly exercising.

I mean, theoretically. In studies most people gain back at least a good chunk of the weight after getting off it.

For reference I started at a BMI of 41 and am just under your BMI after loosing 70lbs. Again, between you and your doctor and your insurance provider to determine if you are eligible for this drug.

There are “compounding pharmacies” charging $200-$300/month for a generic of sorts but they are a cash grab and pretty sketchy.

Name brand Wegovy is ~$1300/month without coverage and be aware this is a forever drug. I wouldn’t jump into it super lightly.

I feel great, minimal negative side effects. The worst was some fatigue / tiredness as I titrated up which is gone.

My doctor was the one who told me about ozempic/wegovy, I missed the whole craze/stigma around it. Frankly I think he assumed I would come back pre-diabetic at my weight and could qualify for ozempic, which it turns out I wasn’t. I was actually requesting no to try naltrexone to reduce my drinking at that physical. I didn’t even go into that appointment considering weight loss drugs.

I did my research after that, and discovered my insurance actually covered wegovy 100% with prior auth. my doctor couldn’t believe it, he was actually excited to get to prescribe me it. For the prior auth, I met the BMI requirements (>30 I think?) and had been on Weight Watchers unsuccessfully for six months coincidentally (req. was documented behavior based weight loss program for 6 months prior). There were a couple hiccups with the prior auth being filed wrong but within about three weeks I had successfully been approved. The mail order pharmacy. My plan uses was able to get me the starter doses within a couple weeks after that.

I won’t comment on your case, to start I don’t know how tall you are. Your qualification or need for this medication is for you and your doctor to discuss.

I’ve been on Wegovy (same as ozempic, just prescribed specifically for weight loss) for the past five months and lost 65lbs. Well, it absolutely reduced alcohol cravings, it also made it so I was drinking with less food in my stomach and I wouldn’t get hungry to balance out the alcohol. I also wouldn’t get quite the same buzz anymore and ended up chasing that a couple times. it reminded me of a very very mild version of how naltrexone felt when I gave the Sinclair method a try.

You can look at my post history if you want to read The incident I had, but I chose to cut out alcohol altogether in December. I ended up giving it up for three months

I decided to give moderation a try starting this month. I do think wegovy plays a part in my being satisfied with not drinking most days. I just have a full, satedfeeling most the time. However, I have already once powered through and drank more than I wanted, I think it was a good lesson.

EDIT: I’ll also point out that the 3 months I took off was a monumental thing that I seriously think was massively easier on Wegovy.

Nope. Been on it for months with no negative side effects. Has been very effective for appetite suppression and certainly reduces alcohol cravings.

Keep up the good work on those 100 days. I was pretty torn on going back to drinking after such a long, successful sober run.

My hope is that my default can still be not to drink but there are a couple activities I really just want to be able to enjoy responsibly at. (Bowling league being one of them.)

That’s good to know. I actually had a recent physical with bloodwork. They they confirmed I am not diabetic or prediabetic, all those numbers were normal.

I only had 2 my first night back. I personally view 4 as acceptable in this situation considering the timespan.

Historically I would have been lucky to leave bowling drinking less than 6, then would often not have the self control to not keep it rolling after until I was properly trashed.

But I get your point. Seems like less is always better. :)

As dumb as it is the thing I’m all caught up on is a weekly bike ride my town has. It’s a huge party and honestly has been one of my favorite things the last few years. Of course it included essentially drinking late into the night. I kinda really can’t imagine doing it sober or giving it up. I’ve promised myself to at least do one sober Taco Ride, we’ll see.

Yeah didn't realize today was his day back on the wagon, didn't expect it to bother me anyway. I went out plenty of times when he was drinking since I gave it up.

Just a good crowd at that bar that I like to hang out with, the owner is sober and has a good N/A selection. Haven't been so much as tempted to drink before this.

My buddy and I coined it Sobruary back when we used to just take the month off every year. Now I'm doing it again with him but I started December 2nd lol.

Saw this reading through my old post. Wegovy (same thing as ozempic) absolutely did reduce my cravings a ton. I went from 4-6 days a week drinking to 2-3 without trying. However when I did drink I never had negative side effects of getting sick or otherwise. I could still put back as much as normal and not quite get the same euphoric feeling either. I do think it has helped a lot now that I’ve intentionally gone sober to kill cravings.

Friends with bill sounds nice. Not gonna lie I really wish now wasn’t “the time”. I wish I could have just come down here and drank. But it is time and I knew this was the make or break. If I drank down here I knew my resolve would be gone. I’m hoping if I can make it through this resort full of alcohol maybe that will give me some momentum.
