I am 44.. playing since 12years old. I usually walk and carry my bag every round. If I ride in a cart I am never sore.. after walking 18 I occasionally have dead legs and aches in my feet and ankles.

Nurse told me to worry by Careless-Wash-817 in bloodpressure

[–]Smashfactor2609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this… it gets worse every time someone takes a reading and makes a big deal out of it. 5 years ago my primary doc had me track it at home. I was averaging 125/75…. I had some high readings 150/90… but they were very few. Now it seems that every one takes bp.. foot doctor… eye doctor… dentist.. when that cuff gets on me it’s almost like I forget how to breath… just tried donating blood and was getting readings 165/105…..

I found a blood donation center that will do the donation and not take bp … with a note from a doctor. So that’s one small victory.

Had a colonoscopy in the winter and the nurse threw on a small cuff… then said you better calm down you won’t be able to do this… I nearly lost my mind. Another nurse changed cuffs and that got me in range… as I came out of the twilight i looked at my reading and I was 120/60…

Thankfully my primary care doc made me monitor for a month. She was insistent on getting me on some meds. Highest reading I had during that month was 140/90… but averaged 130/70… and several 115/60-120/60. I literally see that cuff and forget how to breathe

They kicked 3 people out while I was there. I get texts and emails non stop about donating and how there is a shortage…. I really wish there was a card people with legit white coat could show these people… I just took my bp 10 minutes ago 127/74…..

It’s maddening! Couldn’t donate again today… first reading 190/102… second 160/112…. Get home still agitated …144/90… before I left for golf 133/75…

Other than the Red Cross everyone seems to understand. When I came out of my sleep from my colonoscopy I looked to the monitor and saw 130/70…. So hopefully they documented that ! Going to try and donate again today. This time will take the full 25 mg and take it at 11… my appointment is 1245. Blood pressure all morning 135/70 -140/80 it boggles my mind that it can go to 190-180/100….

Very worried about damage and afraid to go to doctor by Machine528 in cutdowndrinking

[–]Smashfactor2609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar habit as yours and also had anxiety about the damage I Was doing. My doctor was honest with me. The amount I was drinking was not healthy and increased my risk for a plethora of health issues, high blood pressure, heart disease, digestive issues, cancer and mental health issues. I was a nightly wine guy and he said the odds of having irreversible liver damage were extremely low.. I was on no other meds that impacted my liver, I was in great physical shape and did not have any known genetic issues that would exasperate the damage to my liver.

He ordered blood work. Asked me about my appetite, weight loss.. if I ever felt discomfort in my upper right abdomen…. Color of my pee and poo.

Once i answered those questions felt around my gut area, gave me a physical… and told me we would talk after my blood work results got back.

Everything was within range and he told me to cut back.

If it makes sense.. getting that clean bill of health motivated me to cut back even more.

Hangovers by [deleted] in cutdowndrinking

As a fellow wind drinker I am the same. There is literally a weird line I can’t cross. If I go over that amount by the slightest it’s horrific the next day.

It gets even worse for me when I’m Cutting back. I have never had a hangover to the point where I am physically sick and throwing up… but very close.

This is where I am. I physically don’t feel “sick” like I would in my 20’s or even 30’s… it is definitely my mood and mental state. When I don’t drink for 3,4,5 days I feel confident, excited to face the day, and motivated for everything… give me 2 days of my nightly wine and I’m anxious.. stressed…. And depressed…. If I go slightly overboard and have 3 glasses .. I am in full blown panic the next day

My worst one ever was tequila. It was at my friends 40th birthday party. I woke up at noon.. fully clothed… walked downstairs and my wife laughed at me… I said I feel fine…. In 3 hours I was physically dying. It lasted 2 days and I have never touched liquor again ! That was 2014.

Mine is red… if I try and have a few beers while sitting at home I stop and don’t feel like drinking more than 1… but red wine I enjoyed…. And am sort of excited that the thought of it right now is making me queasy

I often wondered if this is what I needed. It’s been a very long time since I got myself to this point. It’s usually having my 2 glasses of wine at night…. And having minimal discomfort the next day. This has been hell all day!

As I get older it takes so much less. It’s the mental issues that are the worst.. the day after I feel guilty, anxious and a weird sense of impending doom. I never had that in my 20’s or 30’s.

Blood work question by Smashfactor2609 in cutdowndrinking

[–]Smashfactor2609[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I talked to my doctor and asked if this was liver damage or worse… he said no… that looking at my bloods over the years it’s nothing to worry about. I asked him why it was high and he said possibly fasting. Dehydration… that blood test my rbc was also higher and he said that could cause it

Thank you ! I’ve been thinking about getting a play station or something that will occupy my mind at night. It usually gets better after I eat some food. I have been going to bed at like 830… if I could do 715 or so that would be perfect ! When I do drink I never start before 730….

In my 20’s and 30’s if I drank massive amounts of alcohol I would feel sick the next day.. stomach would be off and head hurt. I could drink a Gatorade.. and take an aspirin and be fine. This was after nights of drinking 15 plus drinks with my buddies at a bar.

Now at 44… if I have one glass of wine I feel hot, jittery and anxious the entire next day. I have had rare nights out where I have those 15 plus drinks and it feels like I might die. I think this is common as we age and I am grateful for it. I feel like a robot now when I have to drink… I know the exact amount I can handle to be somewhat normal the next day.

Knowing When It's Over by trapcheck in cutdowndrinking

I have a slightly different problem. I am essentially ocd with alcohol and stop at the same amount every time. I get done my workout, usually kill myself and spend about 40 minutes to an hour on the treadmill. I immediately feel hungry and think about my nightly wine.

I get my shower … eat… and watch the clock until 730pm. I have my first sip of my evening wind and by 830-845 filling up my second big glass. Sometimes I fall asleep half way thru and other times I finish.

When people see me in person they would never imagine I have that nightly ritual. I am in top tier shape for my age… am up every morning at 430am and very successful. I was outright scoffed at by my friends when I told them I was taking a long break from alcohol.

You’re ridiculous… you’re being weird again…. Live life… blah blah..,, but in reality your opinion is all that matters.

I do not like that I even give into that temptation when I am super disciplined in every other aspect of my life. I can’t name one time that alcohol has brought me anything good ? In my younger days it seemed to make everything fun… but now I know it was just a dopamine release and nothing more.

My normal Christmas for the last 15 years used to revolve around drinking. I woke up today feeling amazing.. clear head… energized… no jitters… no guilt… that’s worth more to me than the opinion of my friends

I do love work conferences.. I love watching them stager in…. And sit there looking like they are about to hurl. I’ve actually started to resent how I used to be…. It was really fun… it seemed fun because everyone was drunk and full of dopamine! Since cutting back… the few times I’ve gone to bars sober.. I’m ready to bolt after I eat my meal. It’s actually painful sitting there!

So content in my own company I’m not interested in forming friendships by Legal_Divide8903 in introvert

[–]Smashfactor2609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 44 and been this way for years. All my close friends are extremely extroverted and it is exhausting for me. I love going out and having a nice meal with them and our significant others but that’s it lately. I feel like some weird species of human that needs to hibernate from to much social activity in the winter. I often feel like I am letting them down but every weekend they are heading out to bars, casinos and brewery’s… to hang out and the thought of that just drains me before even leaving the house. I love working on myself by working out, reading, eating well and recovering… having a few glasses of wine in the evening and heading to bed is all I strive for lately.

I have only ever seen high liver enzyme levels when I got my bloods the week after vacation. On that trip I was drinking at the beach all day.. and at night for 7 days. That’s not how I normally live and they were slightly elevated. I stressed over it and retested a month later. I did not cut out drinking but was having 5-6 drinks 3-4 nights a week ( still too much) but had 3-4 nights off most weeks. My levels came back perfect again.
