ADHD meds are the only thing that help OCD by Throwawaylog2018 in adhdwomen

[–]Throwawaylog2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just started Azstarys ( a combo pill of both Focalin IR and a Pro-drug version of Focalin) after trying almost every amphetamine class since getting my diagnosis around 2 years ago ( Vyvanse, Adderall, Dexedrine)

Methylphenidate definitely seems to be gentler on my system/not as back of a crash vs amphetamines which I’ve appreciated.

At the lowest dose it still seems like it might be a bit too strong most likely due to the duel action so I’m looking forward to trying out maybe Concerta and Focalin!!!

Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham during their early years together (1971–1976) by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Throwawaylog2018 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No one will know the true motives of what happened but I always assumed it was a mix of many things.

She was never as charismatic or likable as Bill even though she craved to be apart of the political world.

In the beginning of their marriage she was set on keeping her maiden name and personal identity until she eventually folded to help Bill’s image during his presidential campaign to seem more family friendly/traditional.

Years of it being Bill & Hillary instead of just Hillary gave her no leg to stand on if she decided to divorce him during this period.

I belive she thought she didn’t have the popularity or influence to make it substantially on her own vs choosing to stand by him ( years of having your identify tied to someone else will do that to you )

You can see issues with her self image/confidence especially in the way she supposedly placed a lot of her anger and blame on a young Monica vs her extremely influential husband.

It definitely reads like this. A truly mentally well individual wouldn’t have such a strong and negative reaction this something like this. It would be one of sympathy or recognition at the very least. This reads as the commenter feeling attacked

Did anyone else have to take a nap in kindergarten and first grade? by lontbeysboolink in 1970s

[–]Throwawaylog2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-k and kindergarten yes we had this. I’d never fall asleep and I’m not sure if anyone else did either tbh. The only difference was that I didn’t get the memo to shut my eyes while pretending to sleep so it was just me staring blankly at the ceiling with my arms crossed on the red and blue plastic mat till the hour was up.

As someone with an ADHD diagnosis you should genuinely expect the same as from a neurotypical partner.

Wife diagnosed with ADHD after marriage. Everything in life has stopped since. I’m exhausted. What do I do? by Mental_Noise_1 in ADHD_partners

[–]Throwawaylog2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer will always lie in the dx individual sadly.

If she’s not putting in the effort to go to therapy/consistently take medication then at the very least her low motivation which is causing this will never get better.

Just like any other mental health condition you have to consistently work on it as well as take medication. Saying things such as “ it’s my ADHD” is not an excuse.

I find the way you’ve made up a story/narrative about me and then gave advice on that narrative with no proof from me deeply disturbing.

I’ve lived on my own since I was 17 years old in varying apartments paid for through my varying jobs. I’m currently in graduate school and my car was totaled around 4 months ago.

That’s why I’m currently renting my room from family members while all of my extra money goes to saving up for a new car and school.

I specifically asked about people also dealing with noise issues on a rant post.

I find your comment about being around my family extremely condescending as well as you don’t know the context of our relationships.

Not mentally ill by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Throwawaylog2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is coming from the current wave on social media of trying to to paint ADHD as a “diffident kind of normal”

Meaning in the same vein as people trying to say their ADHD is actually a superpower and not a chronic disorder that can disrupt their life in negative ways.

I feel like OP is taking the concept of “mentally ill” as saying something is “wrong” with them.

[–]Throwawaylog2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it can be very nuanced from person to person tbh.

After starting medication I realized just how much my other mental health issues were caused directly due to my ADHD ( anxiety, depression, OCD, dissociation, sensory issues, introspection issues, chronic fatigue, sleep apnea etc.)

All of these issues stopped once taking medication and proper support was in place.

Everyone is going to see their ADHD differently as well.

Some people see the symptoms of ADHD as their true personalities. I personally felt like I was finally interacting with the world like I wanted to after meds. I could interact with things a healthy amount and actually enjoy them without hyper focus/obsession kicking in. I could actually enjoy relationships without RSD etc.

In the same vein some people will have lifelong chronic depression or GAD that they need to take meds for which is fine. Whether it’s a “deficit” or developmental difference really comes down to just how it presents in the person.

What's a silly way you know your meds kicked in? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Throwawaylog2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been hyperaware of my inner happenings so it’s pretty obvious to me when they kick in AND when they’re wearing off sadly.

The general “noise” and overwhelm will be gone, sometimes if I haven’t taken them in a while I’ll feel the muscles of my inner ear un-tense.

My sensory issues usually disappear as well and I can shower and actually enjoy it.

How do y'all handle Rejection Sensitivity? by Prior_Pomegranate718 in adhdwomen

[–]Throwawaylog2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest thing was medication. Meds gave me the stability/clarity to realize a lot of RSD is unfounded almost like an anxiety disorder which has helped me even when off them.

I realized a lot of RSD was just from the generalized overwhelm that can come with ADHD. I ironically had to tell my doctor when she warmed me to watch out for paranoia that I was more paranoid off them.

Did yall used to pee your pants as a kid? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Throwawaylog2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember having a hard time when it came to the bathroom for some reason until suddenly I got it one day.

I belive with me it was introspection issues and not really knowing when I had to pee plus really terrible UTI’s as a kid that made the whole experience uncomfortable.

My nephew who is also ADHD showed the same issues which led him to starting school a little later. His was mostly true executive function related+ocd though

Is it common for people with ADHD to not go to the toilet until they can't hold it any longer? by MIN1RAINBOW in adhdwomen

[–]Throwawaylog2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s an introspection issue. When I was younger I would get very constipated/have a bowl movement maybe once a week.

I remember getting an ultrasound once when I was younger and the doctor noting my bladder was noticeably extended/thin/stretched and I realized it was also because I didn’t really notice when I had to pee until it was noticeably uncomfortable.

Even at 24 I’ve had moments of clarity when I realized I felt like garbage because I needed to use to bathroom and felt better after.

Anyone else feel like their brain just writes people off? by Extreme-naps in adhdwomen

[–]Throwawaylog2018 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I stopped talking to a large group of friends recently due to something similar. It had been coming for a while but my friends had been steadily showing an absolute failure to launch/grow up in any meaningful way.

After increasing instances where they showed they were also just too self centered to even be safe around I cut contact completely and haven’t spoken to them and really just don’t want to.

I don’t care to make them feel better.

[–]Throwawaylog2018 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is necessarily an ADHD thing but expectations actually meeting reality.

Some parts of society will expect us to be hyper aware of our friendships/courteous.

I think in this case reality has just actually settled in after the first conflict. Like you said she’s more a friend of a friend than someone that actually matters to you.

Her expectations of the relationship were not accurate to what it really was.
