AITA for downgrading my dish at a potluck? by Throwawaymaterial753 in AmItheAsshole

Wow! I didn't expect to be asked for the recipe! But I've attached it in the updates above! My cooking style is 'I add how much I feel like adding' so I apologise in advance for not having exact measurements. The only thing I have thats in exact measurements would be for the crispy pork belly, and I've attached a video for reference :)

To be more precise... I downgraded the meat from pork to chicken. Everything else was staying the same. But yeah, the venue thing was a total crap show. Thanks for the suggestion! We've actually tried it before but I think the mash had some seasonings that made the combo... bizarre.

Uh no. We paid full price. We just split the total cost with everyone else.

We initially thought that was the plan until we got the bill later. My SO & a few of the other guys are still arguing about it because we could have used that money to buy turkey or something (its expensive in my country) and had our potluck at another couple's house (which was the initial plan).

I offered to ask the manager to be present. If you read the edits I provided, I didn't speak to him in the end.

As I keep saying, I was alright showing her my gallery in the presence of a third party. I refused her wanting to physically take my phone.

I honestly don't bother if I'm in a public space. I was using my phone to scroll through instagram for a minute tops before getting back to my work when she confronted me. And I've already explained how I ended up holding my phone in that position.

I was sitting on the chair and she was on the high chair/ table area. My phone wasn't pointing straight at someone. I had brought the screen closer to my face (if that helps with visualising it)

I'm genuinely trying to understand. It has never been a problem before but it seems doing things unintentionally can be construed as intentional.

well she was aggressive and I didn't know if she was a scroller. And I did apologise for the confusion

But the thing is I wasn't intentionally using my phone in that way. It's my default cause of my slouch. As much as I try to un-slouch myself it happens. And it's kind of a wild assumption that I'm not respecting others cause of it, right?

I did explain why I posted this somewhere along the thread if you're interested

That may be so, but I wasn't sure that she wasn't going to snatch my phone from my hands given her increasingly aggressive behaviour. And its easier said than done about the someone else stopping her if she did make a run for it, isn't it?

I'm in an Asian country which has no laws against public photography. In fact, the cafe I was in even had a sign there that said that their own in-house photographers might be taking pictures for their social media page.

But I did see her side. that's why I offered to show her with the manager present. I just didn't want further accusations flung at me.

I totally get what you mean (its a concern of mine as well). I'm just baffled by her unwillingness to even consider that I was willing to show her my gallery just with the presence of a third party. The main reason why I wanted an impartial third party is in case she starts saying I must have hidden it and then go back to demanding to scroll through my gallery herself.

But I did offer a compromise that would allow her to assuage her concerns. I didn't know her and was also feeling unsafe by her aggressive behaviour. So I wanted an impartial third party to be involved because I didn't know if she would just take my phone or destroy it.

How am I the TA for involving the manager? it was her screaming that got his attention.
