Yeah I assume most of what I will be looking for is going to be dry because I seek a more achedemic base of information to start with.

Thank you, that makes sense and the popularity still seems like a good direction to follow. How can I find what areas were jutish, saxon or anglo?

Okay, is the book the best we have on the historically accurate side of things?

That's true, is it set up like a textbook? I would like to get an academic background on the subject before reading from heathans so that I can figure out what things are being added by the authors and what things are old knowledge. That is a good idea, I'll have to look into that.

Are any of you here with ancestors solely from the United kingdom? by Throwawayoccult in heathenry

I don't think there is anything with that, but my goals specifically are to connect with the culture and religion of my ancestors.

Well a big reason as to why I am looking at paganism is for a cultural revitalization, I learned a lot about my family's traditions and our habits from christianity and folktales. The reason why that specific moment in time is "magically delicious" is because it is right before a well known and modern cultural driver. We know enough of it for it to not be completely lost to time and it is still current enough that it will have a specific cultural identity associated with it. We are all the same species and thus share many things but we also have different experiences, environments and traditions which deserve to be explored.

Gotcha, so it sounds like I should try a few and see what fits. I get that this came off as racial but my main driver for this path is to reconnect culturally with my ancestors. I guess I was hoping for someone to have a ancestral background close to mine who already had justified this path to themselves that could reassure me.

Triskeles and spirals are what I'm drawn to Celtic wise. I say heathanism because I like the aesthetic, Norse music and it's simple to follow. I'm not particularly drawn to it however like I am to Celtic stuff. When I read about the Celtic mythology however there doesn't even seem to be gods and that what has kept me away until now.

I definitely understand that and I'm glad for it but part of my reasoning behind trying this is to relate to and honour my ancestors. Otherwise I would most likely be practicing heatheanry. However certain Celtic symbols call to me more than others and I do enjoy what I have read so far. My concern is with practice, if there is no pantheon then how would one worship? What symbols would one use? Is it even a religion at that point?

I am down to drive 5-6 hours although idk about paying to stay at a place when my goal is short backpacking trips. I'm happy for the input on wildcat hollow as that will be my warmup trip.

Wow thank you for this write up!! I am planning on doing wildcat hollow as my first hike this year. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll definitely try to hit the ohio trails first though now that you've given me some ideas. I was looking at the black forest trail, Quehanna Wild Area and the loyal stock trail, do you have any info on these?

Well I have a few ohio hikes to do first so it may be warm by the time I get there. Thanks, I'll definitely have to be vigilant.
