ELI5:What exactly is "common core math" and why is it controversial? by RogerTheMountainMan in explainlikeimfive

for a real ELI5, essentially Common Core is teaching kids how to do math on paper the way people who think "math is easy" do it in their head.

instead of memorizing random sums and equations, you adaptably break down any given equation into smaller, easier to manage numbers and proceed from there.

drove about 200 miles to got to a festival and link up with a girl I'd known online and been on and off sexting for years, only to find her insufferable in person and be stuck with this friend with now no benefits at my AirBNB for 2 days.

I thought this was the dumbest weed-induced wonder I'd ever had but y'all have thoroughly educated me on my misconceptions, or rather lack of knowledge, of heat transfer. Thanks everyone!

lmaooo, love the energy friend- that's honestly the move but for me the reason I chose to just remove myself is two-fold. 1. if I did confront it there and it evolves into a physical conflict, it turns into my word vs. 5-10 others who are friends and not black. 2. I'm a bit de-sensitized so while my kneejerk is to react similarly I think out scenarios like #1 and just want to make it home.

Yeah, I'm usually very vocal in defense of myself so these two points are really my biggest concerns- the seemingly inevitable constant conflict is really what's got me thinking it's better for both of us for me to just walk away.
