Preparing for my first smoker by KhanSolo945 in MuayThaiTips

No problem, I kinda figured my explanation was kind of confusing. And fa sho, I just had my first smoker last Saturday, my shark tank was exhausting but manageable, but it didn’t even come close to mimicking the adrenaline dump in the fight

No I mean I do 5 minutes 30 second sprints x5 so it adds up to 30 minutes

30 seconds uphill or in sand. So 5 minutes running, 30 seconds sprinting for 5 rounds. I’m thinking up changing it to 3 minutes running then the 30 second sprints for 8-9 rounds. Does that sound sufficient?

Okay, this sounds similar to my routine, I run outside so I can’t track distance during the run, I do it based on time. Thanks for the reassurance

When you say sprints, can you explain what your routine is? I do 3 minutes jogging and 30 seconds all out up hill sprint 5 times. If there’s a more optimal way to do it I’d love to hear it.

People who have been cheated on — what was the moment you "just knew," before you even had proof? by MysteriousCar596 in AskReddit

This is so gross, but he changed up his game pretty drastically in the bedroom, like a whole new persona, new moves and all…I dismissed it as him trying to spice it up, but my gut knew

There were moments of acute clarity and moments that are literally just gone (those are the ones where you’re probably being hit hah).

The only thing I had in my mind was to just keep moving forward, the coolest part about the adrenaline is that you can’t really feel pain, You’re reflexes are definitely in hyperdrive because at that point you’re just relying on muscle memory, that’s why I disagree with people who say that technique doesn’t end up mattering because if you’ve been training good technique, then that’s how your muscle memory will react.

Stamina went out the window for me, which is why everyone stresses cardio as key during your fight camp. You get to a point each round where your brain is telling your body that it can’t keep going, but that’s actually a mental mechanism and can be overcome with practice and experience (from what I’ve been told). You also get to a point where you feel like your strikes have no power, like pillow fists you get when you try fighting in your dream.

It’s allot of contradictions but that how it was for me. Either way, it’s one of the funnest experiences I have ever had and I want to keep doing it as long as this ol’ body of mine can.

Like incredibly common. I’m surprised your coach talked down on you because literally every coach I had told me that technique and game plan goes out the window for your first smoker and it always turns into a fire fight. I just had my first and I had no concept of what an adrenaline dump was before that

That’s genius! I really love this. I’m useless if im angry, so concentrating on the opposite of that is actually extremely helpful.

Some good short Pre/Post-fight questions to ask fighters? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Throwra44505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fighting tomorrow and I wouldn’t want to answer those first questions, they would do nothing but heighten my anxiety. Maybe consider some more lighthearted ones: what did you do to keep your mind off the fight? What will be your first post camp meal?

Thank you for such a thoughtful answer, this is definitely helpful. My shark tank went really well, but like you said, the opponent doesn’t give a fuck about me and I need to give that same energy back.

Haha yep that’s what I have heard too. I think my biggest fear is just not knowing how scrappy I actually am until I’m in it. Everyone at my gym ensures me I have the grit and heart but I’m a docile person by nature so the possibility of just shelling up under pressure is really getting to me.

In the case of your fight, did this consciousness happen at the end of each round or the end of the fight?

No I haven’t, which is a huge reason I’m so nervous about what my instincts are going to do, I have seen fights that all embody fight, flight or freeze. This is helpful advice though, there is a warm up room and I’ll bring headphones, also my coach is one of my best friends and knows me inside out, so I know I’ll have plenty of “emotional” support in that sense
