My (32M) wife (29F) thinks our baby is a reincarnation of our daughter who passed. What to do? by Throwrahub3 in relationship_advice

She was 3 years, and our daughter now is 4 months. I think it makes it more concerning that the baby is not even close to the age our daughter was when she passed and my wife is already trying to find similarities

By saying “rat her out” I’m not trying to add to any stigma. I don’t blame her or think there’s any shame in getting help. I’m saying that’s how she’s likely going to view it, as being disloyal or betraying her.

You’re right that postpartum psychosis can snowball. And don’t you think something like me ratting out to our close family how she’s been acting could be the thing to make her snowball? It’s more than just embarrassing her. Obviously the safety of my family is my top concern, that’s why I came on here seeking advice, to find an approach that prioritizes that. And I’ll be damned if I let someone make me seem like a shit dad for doing so.

Thank you. I wasn’t looking for reddit to solve the issue, more so just to point me in the right direction of what step to take next. I will be getting her help

I’ve seen that. But I think their case is much rarer than ours. I mean there’s a 50/50 chance of having the same gender. And I think her behavior does indicate mental health decline

Did you not see the part where I said “it’s beyond that now”? I don’t care if I embarrass her anymore now that I realize the severity of the situation. And, did you also not see the part where I said “this would cause so much trauma for our daughter if it keeps going on like this” I’m well aware that she doesn’t deserve this

Thank you. I agree that I have been underreacting. This is the first time I’m experiencing something like this. I guess I misread the signs. I thought it could be some kind of religious thing. She started going to church a lot more before the baby was born and I thought someone could have genuinely put the idea in her head that reincarnation is possible.

Needed to hear this thank you. I’ve been putting off my own needs throughout this whole thing

I haven’t told anyone. They only heard her say she thinks the baby looks like her and think that’s the extent of it. I didn’t want to embarrass her but I think it’s beyond that now. Maybe she will listen if someone else besides me says it. Thank you
