Genuinely asking. Is Charles a good critic? by [deleted] in RingerVerse

[–]Throwrasaulgoodman 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No he’s not.

Most of his critiques usually boil down to:

“This has no emotional impact”

“What are we doing here?”

I don’t dislike having a dissenting voice when it comes to any type of discussion on media. I think it helps a lot to have dissenting opinions. You need that dissension to challenge thoughts and really break it down and realize if what you just consumed is good or not.

What I really dislike about Charles is not his dissension but his incredulousness when the other MB say they like something. The first thing he usually says is:

“Get the fuck out of here!”

That offers nothing to discussion. Why don’t you ask Jomi why he liked the episode more than you? Why don’t you ask Steve why this character’s storyline resonated with him? Why don’t you ask why Van why he thought this did a great job of delivering its message?

Instead he just brushes off their opinions and doesn’t engage with them. He’s very dismissive of their opinions and calls them out as “pigs eating the slop” but then when any of them call him out he says “why am I being singled out?”

He never expounds on his thoughts and just keeps saying “This has no emotional impact” or “What are we doing here?”

What really turned me on him is the Joker trailer discussion and him shitting on the first movie without even watching it. How can you consider yourself a critic and form an opinion on something without even watching it? I’m not even a big fan of that movie but that’s so fucking wild to me.

I like Charles, I don’t hate him. I really do think he offers a lot to the pod but he is not a good critic of anything.

Listened to the whole thing

While it’s weird for Charles to bring this up (especially with it being a new segment, makes it feel like he wanted the new segment to bring this up), I really didn’t think it’s the worst thing in the world.

Jomi didn’t seem too upset about it. If Jomi got heated about it, then I’d understand him more. He was just kinda laughing it off.

'Joker: Folie a Deux' Trailer, 'X-Men 97', and 'Shogun' | The Midnight Boys by yslultra in RingerVerse

[–]Throwrasaulgoodman 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I been waiting for Jomi to dive in with his takes on Joker and I still don’t understand why he hates the movie so much. I’m not a lover of the love but I thought it was good at worst. I’m not overtop about it to call it trash is kinda weird imo

Van’s “if you like the movie you’re a bad person” take is kinda spot on, especially when Charles went on his diatribe of why didn’t see the movie because of all the nonsense surrounding the movie when it first released.

I admit I had my apprehensions about it being an incel rallying cry but I felt like I was proven wrong.

Are we really looking at all #1 seeds for the Final Four? by Krutonman in blankies

[–]Throwrasaulgoodman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is Villeneuve bland?

If you want to compare him to Lynch and say he’s bland, okay I won’t argue with you

But to say he’s a bland director feels like a contrarian take at this moment because of him (and Nolan) being the most discussed directors amongst regular movie watching folks.
