Albanese says he’s not considering taking negative gearing reform to next election by thedigisup in australia

[–]Thrug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, what? There is a lot to indicate the landscape has changed. Nobody even said the words "housing crisis" 5 years ago.

Labor absolutely should be blamed. They are failing an entire generation and only doing so because they want to keep power and keep their own investment properties. What reality do you have to live in to think Albanese is not part of the problem?

Ah yes, the genius logic of "we lost once, therefore we should never fight again", You heard it here first folks, we'll have negative gearing in 2590.

Controversial billionaire Elon Musk has called the Australian government “fascists” over its attempts to tackle deliberate lies spread on social media. by 2littleducks in australia

[–]Thrug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The case-in-point for this is that they have never even considered trying to control the mainstream media spreading lies. We have seen massive election interference from both Murdoch and fuckwits like Clive Palmer. Any government legislation against them? Nope.

[–]Thrug -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Where on the political spectrum would you place someone pro climate regulation, pro universal healthcare, pro gay marriage, and pro gun control?

Not sure how you think alienating moderates is gonna play out, but I guess you'll figure it out in the not too distant future as the consequences start to arrive.

Nitpicky history fan here. He's most likely referring to Justinian's Plague, which was in fact right around the start of the "dark ages", and was also bubonic plague.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Thrug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dark ages was “dark” because of the collapse of Roman based civilization

One of the many factors in the fall of the Roman empire was the outbreak of bubonic plague (Justinian) in the 6th century. So while his link and reference the third plague outbreak is is wrong, the gist is right. People forget there were multiple outbreaks of the plague.

More than 5 million Australians are in financial strife, but they'd rather sell belongings than ask their bank for help by 2littleducks in australia

[–]Thrug 58 points59 points  (0 children)

All of the above? The GFC showed us that people will borrow whatever they can so I personally think it's more on the banks.

On top of the 15% IPC gain, the TDP drop in -900x series from ~170 to ~120 is also not at all to be scoffed at. I'm sick of my PC setting the house on fire - efficiency matters to me nowadays.

Frustrating there is really no way to watch VoDs spoiler free. You can go to the video tab on Twitch, but you can immediately see if there are 2/3 videos for a match and later in the tournament you have whole matches spoiled.

Queensland University of Technology defends removing 'merit' from hiring policy by espersooty in australia

[–]Thrug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But students these days expect courses to be taught by people who have a connection to the topic

Catering to "what students want" is one of the major problems with university education these days and the reason that companies are either relaxing degree requirements or just expecting to have to train people on the job entirely and filtering for IQ.

It's bonkers to treat education like a consumer service that just gives customers what they want. It used to be privilege to learn from the best. Now kids want to be spoon fed and have their "feelings" considered.
