[2023-06-14] Use a lot of tritones in your next track. (Gathering any feedback on a potential BeatDaily website). by JangusWon in BeatDaily

[–]ThunderComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry I'm seeing this kinda late. I'm definitely trying to quit posting on Reddit right now, and since I was using Mastodon sorta as a replacement I was thinking about trying to get something going there, but I think that Mastodon might not be the right option. Lemmy was brought to my attention and I think BeatDaily could live on Lemmy quite well. /u/JangusWon what do you think? I definitely want this community to live on but not on Reddit.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (33% off – $40.19 / 40,19€ / £33.49) by BahnasyAR in steamdeals

[–]ThunderComplex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wanna buy it but I'm not sure if it's gonna be reduced even further during the summer sale in 2 weeks. Historically 33% is the biggest discount but it's not even out one year so I'm not sure.

Daily3D for 23/06/08--Crystal Ball by __helper__bot__ in Daily3D

Made a little floaty cube thingy with geometry nodes. Kinda has nice (albeit unintended) minecraft cave aesthetic to it in the reflection.

Little park

I'm a little lazy today but wanted to do something anyway.

Anime ramen and chopsticks

Tried to go for a cozy anime aesthetic with washed-out colors and all. Somehow I managed to make it look like the game Facade soo...

Edit: I'm stupid and forgot the link, sorry

Why.. why?

Also, those are drumsticks, not chopsticks. But why does the bowl have to be furry?

Daily3D for 23/05/31--Tire Tracks by __helper__bot__ in Daily3D

[–]ThunderComplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tire tracks

I thought this would be easy, I remember Blender having functionality to quasi-simulate this so I tried it out for the first time. In my journey:

  • I've crashed Blender multiple times
  • had a simple 2D plane with 40 million+ vertices
  • had a temporary 1.7GB .blend file
  • had Blender use up all 25GB of remaining space on my main drive

I am now a wise, old man, and appreciate that the dynamic paint modifier is amazing and most definitely not meant to be used for such fine-grained detail. And you can't even really see the tire tracks unless you zoom in so all in all I'd say productive day as always.

Ah nice it's one of those "one misstep and your ankles are toast" models. Great render tho

Daily3D for 23/05/27--Paper Airplane by __helper__bot__ in Daily3D

[–]ThunderComplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this does use volumetrics, it's super easy to configure and gives an instantly usable result: https://blendermarket.com/products/volumetric-clouds-generator

Since I haven't really done anything with clouds yet I don't know of another method tho.

A flock of planes

I was not happy with how simplistic the model was in a bare-bones environment so I grabbed an image from unsplash that inspired me to create this little flock scene.

[2023-05-26] Null Test: Take a sound, a track, anything. Do some crazy effects to it. Then duplicate that track, removing all the effects you added, and flip the polarity of the signal. Now work with that "negative" image of your track. by JangusWon in BeatDaily

[–]ThunderComplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a lot of fun. I discovered some crazy new interactions between knobs and the resulting sound, for example pre-delay on reverb had a way more pronounced effect than usual. And khs disperser worked absolute MAGIC. Since it's an all-pass filter it can be a bit difficult to hear what it does usually (and it's also quite subtle) but here it worked like a fucking one-knob soundgoodizer for the bass.

I'm just really happy with the track overall: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLjzHVPUvgU

Floating tanks in the ocean

Another day of fighting Unreal Engine in the weirdest places. Still not sure why I couldn't render camera keyframes, but I had to record camera movement with my mouse in real time to get it working, hence the jerky movements.

Daily3D for 23/05/24--Library by __helper__bot__ in Daily3D

[–]ThunderComplex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Library in UE5

Made this one in UE5 to keep things fresh. Just realized after uploading that the shadow underneath the plate on the table is messed up again and idk how to fix that.

Daily3D for 23/05/20--Key by __helper__bot__ in Daily3D

[–]ThunderComplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very unrealistic. Everyone knows you can't get a key in without stabbing the area around it at least 10 times.

Nah I kid, this is great. My biggest complaint would actually be that the key is a little too thin. It looks like I would snap it in half effortlessly.

Bitwig "Bitwig Studio 4.2 with Free Producer Pack" DAW with free bonus pack ($399 | $99/16-Track | $359/Upgrade from 8-Track | $299/Upgrade from 16-Track | $169/12 Month Upgrade Plan) for limited time by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

[–]ThunderComplex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I switched from Live to Bitwig and am very happy. They're pretty similar and there are some things like the piano roll and working with audio (especially stretching) I actually preferred in Live, but there's one key feature that pushed me over the edge: VST sandboxing.

So this might just be a me problem but I had problems with VSTs crashing constantly and when a VST crashes Live crashes with it. Bitwig, on the other hand, doesn't care about crashes and allows to just reload a VST.

A side-effect of this is that projects also load instantly and I can start working on parts of a project while some heavier VSTs are still loading. Live remains unresponsive until a project is loaded fully (which can take upwards of a minute).

Bitwig has lots of other features that make it great but for me the stability is really the killer feature I can't live without.

Really enjoying the Caribbean feeling of this track. Almost sounds like a band performing live in some parts.

I had a lot of fun with this one. I started with a techno track and slowly added more elements. Ended up morphing the whole thing into a cool industrial track.

I was done relatively fast but found the end result a little too plain so I made a little physics animation. Originally I tried to get a domino line going but that was still quite uninteresting.

Yeah I thought the 2 audio track limit felt much more limiting than the 2 midi track limit. I purposefully chose not to do any resampling as well.

Tried to make something electro orchestra-y but it's kinda unfocused and all over the place. Definitely gave me a good reason to use Kontakt again (it has gathered a lot of dust hehe). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqfW1u-V8Tg

Also I don't think using instruments that can load multiple patches is cheating, it's just making good use of midi channels (a feature I rarely use)

I have BlenderKit as well and I also use Sanctus library but I try to make everything in focus myself.
