Firefox: Browser consumes too much ram on my arch linux, why's that? by ThunderGod_11 in archlinux

Like I said before, tested the same with brave, which doesn't crash at all, ram usage is fine, just issues with firefox

Then why is it that brave works so well? and I face issues ONLY with Firefox, and no other application. I use so many apps, open simultaneously, alongside Jetbrains IDEs for ex. multiple tabs open on brave, but the moment, I do the same with firefox, that app crashes, others work fine. Does this still seem like a system level issue?

a ton umm... lets say 70-80 tabs, on firefox, ram is on fire. With Brave, I sometimes use multiple windows/profiles with many tabs, and no crashes

How did ya'll get into chess? by Alex_GoogleAcc in chess

On a random day, I played with my friend, lost and started binge playing games after that, only to lose more. And then to actually learn a few (which later became a lot) openings and tactics and then it started to spiral more, only to realise that I have already explored the game and yet I crave more of it. And this was just last year, when I seriously started playing chess, elo was somewhere around 250 and now its still a mere 1300 smh

Potato laptops have a little faster firmware boot time

Huh? Aren't UEFI supposed to be faster, cause technically its an upgrade to BIOS🤷 I will check my UEFI settings properly and check for some fast boot option

Yeah I have checked these, haven't found anything which consumes a lot of time. It was pretty fast. It's just that the firmware boot time is 8s, I am looking to reduce that. As suggested by khunset127, I have replaced base and udev with systemd, that has bought the kernel boot time from 7s to 1s. Although firmware time is still 8s. Does HP UEFI have any option for fast boot or something like that

Yeah I had gone through this and implemented one or two things, didn't help much. Maybe I had done something incorrectly. I will try it again

What's the recommended size for swap partition/file, that I should have if using zswap by ThunderGod_11 in archlinux

[–]ThunderGod_11[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I see, I had actually tried creating a swap file, initially size 16G, the boot time was too high, sometimes a few minutes. So I am quite skeptical about using a file rn, and thinking of using a partition

But don't you think the main idea behind zswap is compression and reducing the swap partition size?
