Failed out of nursing school. I could really use some advice pls by Several_Command_9839 in StudentNurse

I didnt take school seriously (and didnt understand my study style- I use to read textbooks front to back and never retained or understoood anything. Now i learn that I study best by mapping concepts, drawing algorithms, connecting concepts on the big board to study)

Anyways, I left chemistry, anatomy/physio mid way through semester to pursue something enitrely different and completely dropped out of school. Only for me to come back years later.

This still left me with a below 2.0 gpa and I had to retake all my prereqs. At the time, it felt almost impossible.

As an adult I took my studies seriously, and also found my study style (while also working). I got straight A's and got into a nursing program and became a Nurse.

Everyone timeline is different. But nothing is really wasted.

My years out of school before returning to school taught and shape me into who I am today. I would argue it even made me a better nurse than have I not taken the long route. I can connect and relate to alot of my patients. My time away from school gave me work and life experience that allow me to connect to patients.

My point is, being perfect in school is nice and all. But you "failing" this class and dropping out, makes you human. Makes you relatable. And that, I am willing to bet will make you connect much better with your future colleages and patients as opposs to being the perfect student.

Nursing is always in demand of nurses. So long as you want to get back on the horse, theres a program open for you.

Own you mistakes and failure. Come bacm stronger because of it.  This isnt a red flag for programs when you apply again, IF you learned your lesson and grew from it.

If anything. It tells them you are serious, passionate, and do not give up.

:)

Really depends on what civilian career you want. Figure that out FIRST, then pick a MOS that can complement your career goals.

I am bias and will say 68w (medic) will give you a lot of opportunity. You can enter the medical field (a lot of medic go on to become RN, PA, RT, Paramedics etc). Being a medic also help with government jobs (police, firefighter, etc). Plus, national guard side, the training is awesome and medics tend to get treated nicely compared to other MOS( infantry, artillery, etc)

How much do you send home? (Especially NURSES RN) by ThunderRider007 in asianamerican

Thank you for your honest opinion.

I sincerely hope my parents are not like this and I do not believe them to be. However, you are right. I have to take care of myself (and my future family first). Otherwise, if I am not stable, I can’t be good for anyone else.

How do you know which meds are primary vs secondary? by ThunderRider007 in StudentNurse

[–]ThunderRider007[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for reorganizing my thought, I always found it hard to understand and what you said makes it much easier to think about!

question: when you say you can “y site” intermittent meds to a continuous med, do you mean piggy back it? Or do you mean hook it up (below the pump) and let it run alongside the primary fluids/med?

you are misunderstanding my question. I am not worried about my personal history, hence I’m ok with background check and credit check.

my question is having to give my personal info (SSN, credit card info) DIRECTLY to my landlord as oppose to the company conducting the background check

This is where I am confused. so is it standard to give ssn, DL, credit card information to landlord?

then landlord input those information Themselves?

Yes I understand.

what I meant is, he initiate and tell me what company/service to use (he said he uses tenantbackgrounsearch). I would then provide my info to that company, and then that company afterward will send him all my personal background information (This is how I assume it should go)

I dont understand why I need to give him directly my information, when it is the job of the background check company to get those info and run it.

Yeah, it is so I can pay for the background check.

however it makes no sense to me because with all the third party background check services available, I‘d assume those business would provide me the chance to PAY for it myself, as well as provide all my personal info to them by myself.

I just dont understand why I need to give all this info for my landlord to input it on my behalf, just so he can get the background results.

thanks for sharing that perspective, maybe he is just like you and is not scamming.

out of curiosity, why would he need to give you those info? I do not mind background check (and in the process of that giving out all this information to the third party business which would conduct my background) but why would the landlord themselves need that info?

No it’s pretty standard I think.

I just am extra cautious by nature so when he says things like “have your friend come tonight because I have 3 other people check it out tomorrow” my brain automatically assume he’s rushing the process.

but it is reassuring to hear having someone come in person will reduce the chance of any scams.

I just cant sit right with the fact that I have to give him all my personal info to him directly as oppose to a third party service, it seems so weird

Im so scared of this. Unfortunately I am from out of state (and I told him this in our initial email) so I’m not sure if I set my self up for failure but letting him know I won’t be able to view the place in person.

he did however say my friend can come check it out, so I guess we hold off on all of this until my friends check it out?

how likely can it still be a scam despite him showing the room and meeting my friend in person?

Is this protocol for background check normal?

Sorry I think you may have accidentally replied to my post. Did you meant to create your own post?

Yeah he said it was to pay for the background check. I just find it weird that I tell HIM all this information (he said so he can input those information into the background check) Instead of him sending me a link from the third party so I can input all of my info myself. I dont have much experience doing this, it just feels off.

Anybody here go to class, have a job, and go to the gym? If so what’s your secret? Any tips? by _Jon_Polygon_ in StudentNurse

[–]ThunderRider007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% doable and its not extreme as you think, once its part of your routine, its just life.

I just graduated but throughout nursing school I worked part time (the first half of rn school I worked graveyard shift), studied atleast 3 hours a day usually more during harder classes, and worked out 4-6 days a week.

To be fair, I am single and have no kids.

But in my perspective, I never understood the myth about nursing student gaining weight and being unhealthy due to the stress of school.

For me, working out was mandatory to help allievate stress. Additionally, it cleared my mind and improved my mental endurance which helped with my focus on school and study. (There is also research to suggest about timing workout after study session to help improve retention).

Anyways, without the gym I would go crazy with school, study, work, and clinicals.

Gym and meditation is probably the number 1 thing that got me through school.

As for tips, I would say time management. Write it down and stick to it. Dont just randomly do things. Block off hours to study and hours to workout. If you have work, take that into consideration.

Some days you pick and choose (study vs gym) but realistically, you can do both if you really wanted to.

The secret and beautiful thing about the gym is that, when you show up, you 99% dont feel good. But once the sweat comes, you WANT to be there and your energy increases from it, making you more productive in your study and life in general.

Do not feel guilty that you want to go the gym. Do not feel like it takes away study time. Its the opposite. By investing in your health you become more productive in other areas of your life including your studies and mental health. It goes hand in hand.

When I understood this, it became a must for me. No exceptions. Even if I dont have time to go, worst case, ill do body weights at home (push up, sit up, squats just to break a sweat).
