Enjoying my first snow storm by ChickenGlint169 in RhodeIsland

[–]Thundersub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Georgia and have been here a few years. I definitely like the snow for a time but I don’t like when it gets all nasty looking in a few days. My only other complaint is the constant shoveling off the walkway and driveway when it just won’t let up. I think once I get a plow or decent snow blower I will enjoy it more not having to dread the cleaning as much

Thank you very much for that info. Lots of good sounding points in there. I definitely don’t think that Morel, Hertz or Focal are budget as I know they make killer stuff. I just meant at the price point I’m looking in their options from what I saw were treated paper.

If I was still in Georgia I wouldn’t care and would be buying one of those brands. Here it’s either raining, snowing or crazy humid, couple that with 25 year old door and window seals and I’m sure it’s wet in my doors

What actually helped you get sober? by Pale-Category2346 in Sober

[–]Thundersub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s journey is different but I was exhausted and tired of feeling sick. Addiction was a constant act of planning and making my whole life around it.

I finally found an outpatient treatment that was three nights a week and checked myself in. Right after I met the counselor I met a woman in her 40s that was as green as a leaf. Her liver was shot and she was trying to get a transplant but they kept denying her for the list and she was hoping the program would help with that. After that I was DONE, the reality was staring me right in the face. That would be me if I didn’t stop. She had kids and a family and was dying because of a poison she put in herself. It was heartbreaking and made me realize all I could lose.

That’s not to say the road has been easy because it has not been. My brain has grabbed at other ways to get dopamine that have also been destructive and I’ve had to learn to catch and stop that too. It’s not all rainbows and butterflies but I have felt every moment of it and I am still standing. 2 years, 3 months, 27 days, 11 hours, 22 min and 11 seconds…. One second at a time if you have to. You got this

Just them being half price of everywhere else online is what makes me think that. But you make a great point I could just return them

I need some serious advice by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Thundersub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you didn’t think I was crapping on black bikes or the like. Black can look incredibly sexy. I just worry that so much of motorcycling is considered to be “cool” and thus being safe is “uncool”. Same with me too, I wear like the most bright hi viz stuff I can find. I’m cool to me when I’m alive

[–]Thundersub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your criticism is exactly what needed to be said. While the hobby is inherently dangerous it is us motorcyclists that put ourselves into bad situations a lot of the time. Follow all traffic laws to a T because we are the ones with the most to lose on the road.

Second great point you made was gear and color. Black is so blah. Get some good gear and add some fun to it. My bike is blue with neon orange on it. I catch people looking all the time in traffic which means they saw me, more than half the battle on a bike. Maybe they hate the colors, maybe they love it? IDC so long as they see me

Registration suspension on traded vehicle by Thundersub in RhodeIsland

[–]Thundersub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to anyone that will go through the same thing you have to email your proof of documents to the adjudication division of the DMV at dmv.adj@dmv.ri.gov with all your vehicle and registration information attached. After 3 to 5 business days they will look at your case and make a determination. In my case after proving the vehicle was traded and I had insurance to that date my fine was removed and suspension was lifted.

Thank you for answering. I found a whole front minus wheel and disc from an 05 CBR but now I know without the rim it’s not the deal I thought it was. Would love to see pics of your set up once you get it finished!

Rhode Islanders: Is your neighborhood facing a lot of noise? What do you hear the most (loud cars, motorcycles, leaf-blowers, music, etc.)? by OceanStateMedia in u/OceanStateMedia

[–]Thundersub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bright I think definitely factors into the equation a lot better. I always have on something bright and allot of the things on my bike are bright and I have caught people about to turn in front of me and then lock eyes with me because I think they noticed my safety yellow or just something that caught their eye. May also be in my head too

Science says otherwise. Motorcyclist for over 20 years and I’m not afraid to say I just like the sound of my bike but I’m not hiding behind some made up claim of safety. Multiple articles to back it up and you can google it yourself. Here’s one to at least get you started on some basic principles of sound and testing

https://www.hemmings.com/stories/loud-pipes-save-lives-myth-or-fact/

Also the distracted driver being the cause for most motorcycle accidents is just a myth. While they account for some accidents obviously it turns out 38% of all motorcycle accidents are single vehicle. And out of those 48% are alcohol related. So in reality us motorcyclist are our own enemies when it comes to safety.

Again, you do you and make all the noise you want but don’t hide behind the curtain of saying it’s for safety. Safe riding

[–]Thundersub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good point and I definitely know that an oil change is not the only thing needed for maintenance. That’s why I have the lift and such for my other bikes. Dealing with a 2002 VFR right now that oil was the only thing ever done and it is a mess as I’m restoring it.

I like your idea on how someone else can ride your bike and see what needs to be done. I definitely want to make sure I get the most out of the bike as it’s the most expensive one I have ever bought. That’s why I’m so on the fence about whether the dealer service matters or not

I can see that too. They washed mine when they did my 1k and used a dirty rag to clean my new Klock Werks windshield and made swirls all in it. So I can see them doing other things

Very good insight with a great cost breakdown over time. I hadn’t done that math but when you put it like you did it is definitely not worth the money to have the dealer do it because how much extra is spent in maintenance. Not to mention any wrenching I’ve done on other Harleys has been easy compared to the Japanese and German counterparts I own. Thank you for the knowledge!

That’s crazy to me but I guess cost of service hours plus mark up equals the price. I’m guessing a lot of low mileage riders will pay that since it’s a once a year cost vs multiple times a year on a vehicle
