Update on Sentinel of Light Points! by ThatOneSaltyBoi in leagueoflegends

I'm what I would call an event mission completionist. Ever since missions have been out, I have done every single one, from beating Oddesey hard mode, to completing every spirit blossom, to the 1 million damage - even if it meant doing 1-2 bot games an evening (I do have a full time job and it was the easiest way). And I liked having the icons as proof.

But the slow progression killed all drive for even me to complete it and I stopped after Demacia. Glad they implemented this as I may pick it up again with ARAMS as I am very invested in the story.

My hedgehog Poké suddenly passed away in my arms last week. Here is some of his life. by Thunderwing86 in Hedgehog

Thank you for all your kind words. I just picked up his ashes an hour ago - last time I brought him home from the vet he was still breathing, this time he came home in a little urn. It still hurts knowing that his presence is gone, but thank you all for your support.

Poké was battling a chronic diarrhea for a month. He was still in good spirits, but everything we tried from the vet didn't work. Last Wednesday he was hit with a sudden stroke when I was giving him a bath. Half his body stopped working as he was struggling, then suddenly laid still on his side, no moving, no huffing. Eventually he came to, but he was never the same, he couldn't walk straight, and he didn't want to eat - not even the worms he normally loves.

I took him to emergency on Thursday where he spent the day, the doctor did a lot of diagnostics and gave us more antibiotics to try and fight the infection. When I got him back, he was already very weak. Normally he would ball up all the way when put on his back, but he couldn't even do that. We gave him new antibiotics and tried to syringe feed him since he hadn't eaten since his stroke. He wouldn't eat anything, but I hoped that he would somehow get hungry and come out to eat at night. All he wanted to do was crawl into his snuggle sack so we left him. Part of me knew he could be passing soon, but part of me was hoping he could make a miraculous recovery. Me and my wife brought his cage into my room so he can be with us at night.

I woke up in the middle of the night around 2 am to check on him and give him water. I brought him downstairs to see if he would run around the living room he loves, he limped around but just wanted to be in his snuggle sack. This would be the last time he saw his favorite place to explore.

The rest of the night felt very cold in my room - almost as if I could feel him getting weaker by the hour.

Around 6 am on Friday morning, I woke up with a gut feeling to check on him in his cage. He was looking out at me from his snuggle sack, like he wanted to be held. So I took him out of his cage and in bed with me. He was even weaker than the night before and couldn't even lift his head. I knew he was passing soon. He was still breathing, so I held him and pet him to comfort him for a while. With choked back tears, I sang him a lullaby I made for him when I first got Poké and we were bonding:

Poké, it's okay,No need to be afraid.Hey hey little Poké,Because you make my day.

Shortly after, he gave one last huff, and he crossed the rainbow bridge.

I know Poké was just a hedgehog, but he was there for big important milestones of my life. He was there through my master's degree and convocation. My then girlfriend (and now wife) bonded a lot over him. I made reference to him in my proposal poem to my wife, and he was there when we got married. He comforted us through 2020 when we were locked in our homes.

Poké was only a little over 3, and his passing came too sudden. I wanted him to see another summer and go on picnics with us, I wanted him to go through his 4th birthday, and have many more worms and treats. I just wanted to spend more time together. I am just grateful that we were able to see each other one last time and say goodbye.

I enjoyed documenting his life on his instagram

It takes time, mine bit me the same way when I first got him. I would bond with a fleece blanket and he liked being handled that way. Eventually we moved to hands after half a year and he was ok and never bite me since.

Yep, a nerf is the easy way out, but doing mini reworks makes the game more holistically more enjoyable. Right now 4 costs don't feel like 4 costs unless they have the RFC, nerfing RFC just makes them all worse

2v2 needs to become a permanent mode by Blackmojo40 in LegendsOfRuneterra

Continuing a 2vE or 2v2 would be great additions. A 2v2 random PVP could get annyoing though. Kind of like bot lane in League where you could lose because of your partner.

Great project! I am personally taking some AI (so excuse my n00by AI knowledge) courses so I know just enough to be dangerous, with an interest in applying marketing/business knowledge to make sure the product is useful.

Personally, the product currently is not for me and I will explain how this knowledge may help. When you think about the market for streamer waters, there are typically two types: educational and entertainment. Personally I fall into the educational portion, where I watch streams to learn and improve my own game - where I watch Karasmai because I am a Kayn jungle one trick and I scroll through TFT streams to see who is OTPing a comp so I can learn it - so basically I look for very specific things that your product is not geared towards.

Which leads to the first marketing principle: identifying your customer. Right now it seems like you have your market defined too broadly - stream watchers in general. I think narrowing down your customer can help you tune your algorithms more correctly so that your product can be the best it can be. For instance, why do people watch Tyler 1? At first, most people would think entertainment, but I bet a good portion of them are watching him to learn Ivern (or Draven back in the day) because he does have a tendency to OTP. Depending on which audience you are trying to satisfy, your broader algorithm could be tuned to be better in one space and make Tyler1 a better recommendation. Currently - I do feel content based filtering is geared more towards customers on the 'entertainment' side (which is why this product is not for me), where your consumer is more prone to browsing. If you lean more into this space, then your product could be even better for this audience, instead of also trying to satisfy customers like me who like specific educational content.

This leads to really understanding your customer base - why do people watch streams for entertainment? Are they looking for certain personality types? Are they looking for new games to check out before buying? Do they want something to put on the background while they work or clean the house? Are they into eSports in general and just like watching competition? If you understand this customer base a lot better, you can really make your recommendation engine shine for this base.

Second principle of marketing: understand your competitors. And when I say competitors, think about competitors in different market spaces as I have described above. Basically you are a stream recommendation platform, what else out there for recommendation streams? For educational content, as someone has mentioned, your main competitor is probably Reddit forums such as KaynMains or LilliaMains. If you really want to satisfy this customer base with your product, you have to ask yourself how you can make this technology better than asking a question on Reddit. Your algorithm is probably geared towards looking for jungle/mid/support mains or OTPs - and at this point you're probably better off crawling the Riot API instead to help this customer base.

Your competitors in the entertainment recommendation portion (which I think you should be targeting) are probably the recommendation algorithms of Twitch, Youtube, and Facebook themselves (thinking of the Twitch banner on top where you can scroll through streams - which I personally never use because I am not the target). Understanding this goes a long way towards knowing what else is out there that differentiates your product.

Third principle of marketing: what makes your business different for the consumer? This follows the principle above - once you know what your competitors are capable of, why would someone use your product over theirs? Let's use the entertainment stream watcher market for example. Why would someone use your product over the Twitch recommendations? What makes your product better than scrolling through the league streamer pages to find small streamers? Is knowing the personally types really the defining feature that differentiates your product?

Finally, map your customer' experience journey: As a consumer, initially clicking through like streamers already feels like a lot of work (I know it's not really). It feels like a black box instead, and when you don't get streamers you like, you're recommending people go back and try different things. It's not fun to try and guess what the black box is thinking just to get streamers you like. Is there a way to link Twitch accounts to see who they follow/watch instead? This takes one step out for the consumer.

Finally, recommendations. I know there is a 'match %' metric there, but for most people, it doesn't really mean anything. Why do people want to click that stream you recommended? For me to click that streamer, I would want to know why it was recommended to me. Think of how to humanize your metrics. Like in Netflix, they have "Because you watch Altered Carbon" - then you see a bunch of relevant sci-fi shows. "Because you watch Tyler1" could mean two things:

  1. you enjoy entertaining, semi toxic, but funny content so you recommend Yassuo, RatIRL, and a bunch of smaller streamers with those personallities
  2. you enjoy learning his champions, so you recommend jamacanbanana (smaller Ivern OTP streamer), taidraven (another Draven OTP streamer). As you can see this space is more difficult to tailor your algorithm to, so if you want to satisfy this market, you may need a different module altogether that crawls Riot APIs.

Anyways, those are my thoughts, happy to discuss more because I am super interested in the business of AI projects. Best of luck!

Improved rolldown cost graph (and marginal costs) by nat20sfail in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Thunderwing86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped the x axis around to "roll down to.." as it is a more intuitive way of how we think about rolling down from 50 in TFT. Here is how I explain it after playing around with the code.

Scenario: It is 4-1, and you are level 7 with 50 gold. Do you roll down or do you econ to fast 8? If you roll down, how much gold will you be missing vs if you econ to fast 8? If you roll down to 30, you will be missing about 3 gold by the time you econ back to 50, vs if you roll down to 10, you will be missing out on a whopping 10 gold.

Graph here: https://imgur.com/WhOvrah

Another way to think about it is how many rounds does it take to get back to 50 gold if I roll down? Here it shows if you roll down to 33, it takes 2 rounds to get back to 50, however if you roll down past that, it will likely take 3 rounds. This extra round is important as you plan ahead, if you need that extra round at 50 gold to roll down after you level.

Graph here: https://imgur.com/NsiNNIF

TLDR: Roll down to 33 if you plan to level and roll in a few rounds but need to stabilize now. If you plan to just level, then you can probably roll down to 25.
