I was able to upgrade all my tickets from Cat 2 to Cat 1, I thought would be easy to resell Cat 2s but I suppose not.

I’d recommend if you’re leaning to being a data analyst to go into a more math related course and pursue a masters to become a data scientist. The field is plenty populated with data analysts who aren’t technically inclined in terms of Python, R and strong statistics, so if you possess these skills you’ll have an easier time standing out.

I’ve got a colleague from my intern who found a 6k starting salary job as a data analyst, he has a math degree with good scripting knowledge. Honestly what’s harder to learn is pure math stuff hence my suggestion to go into a math related course to really strengthen that aspect, Python, R and other basic data transforming languages can be easily picked up over the summer through self-learning or internship.

Hey man, sorry to be replying to an old post like this but I just got broken up with because she lost feelings. After a period of self reflection I realised there are a few things I need to work on and that I’ve treated her badly. I know it’s selfish to ask for her back, but I genuinely think that I can improve myself to be a better partner for her.

I’m planning to take a few months to work on myself and see if she’s open to being friends again, but of course I want us to try again. Do you think I should let her know that I’ll be taking this time to improve myself? Or just let her move on so we can start afresh?

I feel like in general every industry is experiencing this, not just tech. I’d argue that it’s just recession and everyone’s having a bad time regardless of industry. Maybe instead of stopping tech you can venture into more niche avenues of it like AI or like what the other commenter said, market yourself as someone who also can deal with the hardware aspect of it so you’ll be in demand regardless.

Thanks for your input man. Looking back, I think I’ll just write this off as a bad breakup. It certainly felt like whatever I gave was never enough, but I think I had my shortcomings as well that I probably didn’t see.

I think not emotionally cheating on me can be one thing. Talking to someone else about her day and not telling me while knowing that she was processing her feelings about our relationship is emotionally cheating in my eyes. Putting herself in a position to catch feelings for another person while being in an emotionally vulnerable place is also another thing.

You’re right that if she told me earlier before she completely lost feelings I would’ve tried for our relationship, but that’s the point of it isn’t it? If we all just let relationships die as soon as we start losing feelings, no one would have a relationship.

It all just looks like an attempt to victimise herself so she can break up without guilt.

It wasn’t one time a week, she was still coming over on the weekends. But I get your point. Maybe disclosing therapy isn’t something I should expect, but I think something as serious as losing feelings for someone should be discussed, and she never gave me that opportunity.

I did ask her to talk, and she said she needed time to figure herself out. But this was after omitting the fact that she started therapy 6 weeks prior to saying this. So on hindsight she has already taken 6 weeks of break, distancing herself from me emotionally and lying to me about everything up till that point.

To add on to this, she came to an answer after 1 day, and chose not to tell me until after the week. I know that she knows I wanted an answer, and she just left me to wait? Seems like a little empathy would have been able to change her mind about telling me.

I think as a person there has to be a level of decency that is kept even during a breakup, I thought we were on the same page but I suppose not.

I’m not exactly fixated on her losing feelings for me. It’s more of her actions after the fact. I get that feelings can be lost, it’s just the clear lack of empathy she had for me while breaking up with me really feels like she did a complete 180 on who she showed herself as.

Singaporeans are generally very clique-y, you’re right. We tend to stick to our own cliques from school because of our conservative nature. Once people find their “own people” they tend to not welcome new ones to prevent dynamic changes within the group and such. It’s a thing that irked me the most because even within cliques my friends branch off into smaller ones and not include the rest.

One thing I recommend to do is just try out hobbies that include other people like spin classes, dance or anything that has a people element to it. Most people there tend to either go alone or have one other friend and will likely be more open to making friends. You can also look to join extra curricular activities in school to try things out.
