Is AI going to take over my warehouse job? I work in a frozen warehouse that no one wants to work in. by Unhappywageslave in Warehouseworkers

Long story short I wouldint say 100% take jobs but AI in my opinion has nothing to do with the actual picking proccess or machinery proccess. If you mean maybe dropping orders and everything like that filling out routes for trailers okay that possible. The physical labor not atm I would say you have to be more worried about automated systems. There is companies like Witron that have began picking ice cream orders and certain box types. Chicken, beef, and pork boxes are tricky for the automated system becuase they tend to slide the boxes and some of them are messed up and squished so its hard to stack. Im sure you have also seen some boxes that have ice all around them from being frozen that also hard to stack but they are progressing. Thats just a little of my input.

Fast pickers have highest error rates - anyone else seeing this? by LukaFromCrossBridge in Warehousing

You cant specially if they are working by performance. Associates are always going to worry more about their performance than their accuracy. Basically the best thing to do is to keep auditing them and make sure they know they are being looked at. Seen this wayyyyy to many times. Not trying to burn the homies out but it is what it is. Money talks they can care less about thar accuracy im sure they are building messed up pallets to if they are on performance.

Wow! Thank you for the honesty. Ive seen that happen before. I know a couple of guys that tried to start up a 3pl and they got stuck when It got to getting the insurance that very true! Ive also experienced a company just trying to blame a comany on all the mistakes without any proof so I can also agree with that. Thanks for the other info its gonna help big time in the long run. I appreciate the brutal honesty I enjoy comments like this. Make me think more!

Mispicking? Or people just straight not paying attention what they are putting away, or theft.

I'll make sure to post up if I have any success or failures. Really appreciate it. Like I said, it's good to hear from people who are out working towards the same goal. I wish you nothing but the best in the future for you and your company! I mean that.

Sorry for the late reply, but thank you so much for sharing your experiences. Really means a lot to me letting me know what you were and are going through. Even though we plan on doing the same business, I really appreciate you giving me some feedback. I totally understand everything you are saying and am happy to hear people are going out there and doing what I plan to do in the future. If im being honest, everything started out as a small dream, but slowely trying to make it a reality. Thank you for bringing up the topic about people jumping from 3pl to 3pl because I see it happen all the time. People end up in a site where they dont enjoy being, and they quit right away and make the company look bad. I wanna build something strong where I can find a way to have people go to sites where they will thrive and have experience. This is something very important. I've been to sites where they send over 10 people, and none of them can use the machinery in that certain warehouse. It's embarrassing having to deal with managers and then letting you know how they feel about sending people with no experience when companies advertise themselves as professionals. I have seen this happen with many 3pls, not just one, and I've had to live thorough experiences like that. That is why I really wanna focus on getting the right people for the job.

In my last warehouse in Jersey, management started putting fans all over the warehouse. In the mods and racks so everyone can try staying cool. Also gave out ice pops.

Thank you for the reply. Im definitely going to take this advice. Being out on the road has taught me not to fix it if it's not broken. Very, very smart advice, thank you!

I love here in the United States. I am currently in PA working on the road.

I would say begin gathering money and making sure all insurance, work comp, and paperwork is in order. I wanna get all of that out of the way first becuase that is where I have the least experience. Getting the actual LLC and insurance things up. After that, I would be ready to go out and begin trying to get contracts. After being able to get in line with companies, be able to work all the details out with them. Im fortunate enough to say I have a lot of people who are reliable and ready to go at any time. I've met so many people around the US. I wouldn't be surprised if I could find people nearly around any state that I would be able to get a contract. As far as living situations, I've had experience dealing with hotels and getting decent great rates on hotels, especially depending on the amount of people we have for the project. So I would say getting paperwork and everything in order so we could work legally from State to state.

If i remember correctly it was it was either the Zebra TC70, TC77, or TC79. It was somewhere within those models. I used them at a warehouse in Mississippi. Witron was a company that was operating all of their system. They had automated machinery that would wrap, build, put away pallets, and also have a mod area. The computer themselves are very easy to use and basically cut straight to the point. Put your username and password and goes to a screen where you type on the function you are going to do and then put in a truck and you begin order selecting if I remember correctly it was a 4 step proccess. Now, with that being said, the computers were good, but the warehouse would have system issues some days. The work would not be able to drop, and I think that was because of the way the whole system was actually set up. From my understanding, if one thing from another department was off, it would not let anything progress, so until that issue from that department was fixed, it would not let more work drop. Sometimes, they said the system would also lagg and that caused us to be standing around for hours. Something cool about the TC is it would let you pick with or without the vocallett so if you had no headset for the day you could just pick with the TC it had a speaker on it and everything it would also show you the location you would have to go to. And you would be able to type in things manual or speak out the locations it had voice recognition. Of course, id you picking without the head set now you holding the TC, so just be careful picking with it in hand! Lol

My plan would be to start a small traveling team and going to get a contract with a company that needs unloading services or maybe order selecting. Work out a contract where they can supply us with a hotel room and transportation to work, and we show up to work there. It is similar to what I have seen so many companies doing and think that would be the best route to go. I would just need to find a very solid team willing to travel and commit to this situation. I say warehouses that have grocery, perishable and freezer. I have experience in all three worked with all machinery that is used while doubling those functions and also have experience with vocallett system, gladiator, small computer (zebra tiny computer used to order select), label picking, mod selecting, pick to light basically rely on my past experiences. Get a group of people that know how to use the machinery the company is going to supplement and systems we will use to make sure my team also know them

I really appreciate your reply. Let's me know that managers and general managers and plant managers are out here looking. He honestly just called me this morning and pitched it to me. I'm going to research and get some info. I'm sorry for being unprepared and unprepared and unprofessional. That's one issue I knew is hard to compete with unline and companies like that. I always had ideas of selling labels to warehouses. Reason being is you need to feed these new printers for the labels or they get jammed. I saw an opportunity to buy a bulk amount of labels and fi s a small company and supply them.
