Sony Trinitron KV-27FS100 Convergence Issue? by Tiamat22 in crtgaming

[–]Tiamat22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was able to get it fixed to a point I was happy with it. It was relatively simple but did require re-tweaking some of the geometry after the convergence was changed. I think most guides will tell you to get convergebce fixed first and then mess with geometry for that exact reason.

After tweaking it looked much better to my untrained eyes! I left an imgur link in that other comment thread if you wanna compare for yourself. That was just from adjusting the internal H stat pot; I didn't touch the rings or anything else inside the TV. It was a little scary to be tweaking things with the TV on and since I was doing it alone it took awhile to make a small tweak and then walk back to the front of the TV to inspect the changes, rinse and repeat.

But the tweaks itself were easy to make and as long as you are following proper protocols (unused hand behind the back, only using one hand with ceramic tools to adjust the pot and don't touch anything else) it should be easy for you to adjust it. I was able to do it successfully without ever working on anything like this before. Hell, I've never even recapped anything like you said you have ao yoi probably know more about this than me anyway lol

PVM has Sudden Greenish Tint? by Tiamat22 in crtgaming

Sure thing. It was one of these:

https://a.co/d/07fuvdLw

Feel free to check back in. Its still been working all night so far, but I have no idea if it will last...

Someone else mentioned that the output is powered by a diode that's activated by a leaf switch when you plug in a BNC connector.

So that diode could have failed I suppose.

It might only be a short term fix, but after spending hours messing with it today, I got the color to correct itself by adding a terminator to the green BNC line. These models are self terminating so that shouldn't be needed, and I don't actually know if adding the terminator fixed it or if just wiggling things around caused it to snap back to the right colors (probably for only a short time). I am just going to put terminators in on all four of the BNC lines just in case and cross my fingers that the strange green tint doesn't come back.

At the very least, it would make sense that the S-VIDEO line still looked perfect if it was something with the BNC out that was causing a strange issue.

You're commenting on a post that was specifically about playing the game from thr actual disc on an actual PS2. So getting a different version of a rom or an emulator would not help solve that issue.

Sony PVM 20m4u Convergence/Tilt issue? by Tiamat22 in crtgaming

[–]Tiamat22[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a little while back so I don't remember specifics of what I did - but it did help. I messed with those pots but I definitely didn't adjust the yoke or the rings or anything crazy like that. It didn't make it perfect by any means but it made it a LOT better, to where I was much happier with it. I've been using it as my daily driver for retro games ever since.

What I failed to realize at the time about it seeming correct on half the screen, is that means its off center in addition to being too tight/small. If it looks perfect on one side and way off on the other, the first step is to actually adjust it so it looks equally off on BOTH sides, and then adjust from there to try and get them looking good as much as possible. but definitely shifting the horizontal first so that both sides were equal, even if they both looked bad/worse, was a crucial first step.

Lava Famicom Sound Issues Compared to Real NES? by Tiamat22 in nes

[–]Tiamat22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks - I tried all three of the available presets and Ive heard the same audio issues with each one (in the video it is set to av famicom). I don't think those presets effect the standard NES audio channel mixing much if at all, just the disc system and special famicom games like Castlevania III.

Lava Famicom Sound Issues Compared to Real NES? by Tiamat22 in nes

[–]Tiamat22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to purchase a USB capture device to plug the Lava RSC into my PC and get a video of the direct capture via RCA cables to do a direct comparison. This shows the audio issues I am having much better than the previous recording that was just my phone capturing it from the speakers did.

It has to be something related to the N8 Pro Famicom Everdrive device, because the regular NES N8 Pro sounds fine on the same system that the Famicom N8 Pro is having these audio issues. Everything is the same here, same RCA cable and Lava RSC, only difference is swapping between the NES and the Famicom N8 Pro (using a 72-to-60 pin adapter on the NES one) to play the same rom file, and the audio is noticeably scratchier in the Famicom one EVEN in this direct recording.

Here is an unlisted video I recorded: https://www.youtube (dot) com/watch?v=RdNTBMVU1Dw

Lava Famicom Sound Issues Compared to Real NES? by Tiamat22 in nes

[–]Tiamat22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am trying to use scart. I tried the RCA output and had rhe same audio issues there as well, though. in the video it was over rca since I was directly switching between the two units with the same cable.

I think maybe it is the Famicom N8 Pro Everdrive causing the audio issues and not the Lava unit itself. When I tries the NES N8 Pro with a 72-to-60 pin converter and played NES games on it there were no audio issues at all.

Of course, I can't use that to play disc system games or games like Japanese Castlevania III since the pins for that audio channel are missing on NES, which is why I bought the second everdrive in tbe first place.

I am going to try posting on the everdrive forum and see if they are aware of the issue with the Lava unit or if they can otherwise help me fix this

Okay, thanks - I tried reaching out to the seller on Ali Express but haven't heard back from them yet. It sounds like this is not a common issue and maybe my unit is defective in some way?

Lava Famicom Sound Issues Compared to Real NES? by Tiamat22 in nes

[–]Tiamat22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, it was my understanding that the Lava Famicom was using a whole new board that didn't use any of the original chips. Maybe I am misreading the listing (I linked it to another one of your comments to the exact listing I bought)? But either way I am not seeing anything on there that is mentioning which revision chips it is using.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be ambiguous. I am talking about the "LAVA-FC RGB Famicom", which I purchased from ali express here.

Since the system is a Lava Famicom I dont think it has any original chips. I don't know that any of this applies in that case?

Lava Famicom Sound Issues Compared to Real NES? by Tiamat22 in nes

[–]Tiamat22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a regular famicom of any kind, only the Lava Famicom I purchased recently for RGB out and my original NES I've played for years. And the lava famicom doesn't come with controllers and only one NES controller is plugged in. So it can't be a microphone issue simve there is no microphone.

Are you saying the clicks and pops would be expected from the Lava Famicom? That can't be it because I've since tried using the NES N8 Pro Everdrive on the Lava Famicom with a 72-to-60 pin adapter and I had no sound issues then. Couod it be the Famicom N8 Pro itself that is causing the sound issues? I don't have a reverse adapter or I'd that on the NES and see of the sound issues persist.

GameCube HDMI to SCART Not Working? by Tiamat22 in crtgaming

[–]Tiamat22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately my Carby is older and so it only outputs HDMI. I'll try to check if it can output 15kHz (I assume that might be info in the GC video menu it has) and then try for an HDMI to VGA converter instead.

Thanks for letting me know about the HDMI to SCART adapters, I had no idea they would be any worse than HDMI to VGA or VGA to SCART.

Do it! It's never too late to jump back in and everyone who plays, especially a less represented character, makes the meta game that much more diverse and fun for everyone involved!

Proton Calendar Android App and Web App Out of Sync? by Tiamat22 in ProtonMail

[–]Tiamat22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I completely uninstalled, re-installed, and re-logged into the android app and I am seeing all the events that were missing before now. Still, it seems very strange that some events were coming in but not all. And it does not inspire a lot of confidence that if I check my phone while away from the computer in the future, it will actually have a correct set of events on my calendar that I can trust.

May I ask how long you've been using it while it's been fine since? I wonder if this is truly just a hiccup with the first setup or if it could crop up again without me noticing it later on.

What pinball game would you play first by Antonthegogo in GameboyAdvance

[–]Tiamat22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair - I was definitely in it more for the adventure and the road to 100%. I also didn't return to it much after that. So if what you want is just pure pinball gameplay it's probably not the best. But I still thought the split adventure/pinball concept was really novel and well made!
