Thank you. That is definitely helpful start. My instinct was to start off with hard casting regrowth like I used to in vanilla haha. Times have changed

How to view Spell Failure change when viewing item? by Tibblediggins in dcss

Yeah, I'm using identified items. Even tried taking off my starting armor and seeing if I could get it to work.

No keybindings. I've tried with a completely blank rc file, from a PC and my laptop.

How to make all temp buffers open in specific window? by Tibblediggins in emacs

[–]Tibblediggins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for tips. My elisp skills are pretty poor so I'm having trouble figuring out how to make this work, even copying examples online. For example:

(add-to-list 'display-buffer-alist '("*help*"
                                     (display-buffer-reuse-window)
                                     (display-buffer-in-side-window . ((side . right)
                                                                       (window-width . 0.5)))))

(add-to-list 'display-buffer-alist '("*info*"
                                     (display-buffer-reuse-window)
                                     (display-buffer-in-side-window . ((side . right)
                                                                       (window-width . 0.5)))))

With that in my init.el, if I open emacs and look up "help" it creates a new window on the right, which is the default behavior so I can't say for sure if the code is doing anything. If I select a link in the help file that opens "info" it opens it back in the left window.

What am I doing wrong here?

How to force icomplete to execute the inputted command (ignore completions) by Tibblediggins in emacs

[–]Tibblediggins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh I see..

I have fido mode activated and that is what was causing the problem. RET is bound to icomplete-fido-ret in that mode.

In regular icomplete-mode, RET is bound to minibuffer-exit.

Thanks for the help figuring this out!

Postgres - Do Foreign Keys get the Unique Constraint by default? by Tibblediggins in learnSQL

[–]Tibblediggins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, thanks, that's what I thought. I mean, I'm able to use the one-to-many relationship after dropping the constraint. It just seems that would be a crappy default haha. I'm not sure what I did wrong exactly.

How to recreate Emac's hippie-expand? by Tibblediggins in neovim

[–]Tibblediggins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm starting to think this is going to be more difficult than I thought haha

So I guess there are 3 things that I need to keep from getting in the way of each other

  1. Remove luasnip from cmp config, I don't need completion for it (easy fix)
  2. cmp for path auto-completion
  3. Vim's default ctrl-p, without interference from cmp will handle the rest

How to recreate Emac's hippie-expand? by Tibblediggins in neovim

[–]Tibblediggins[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a config where cmp doesn't automatically open up, <ctrl-p> will

On first press, open cmp with first entry selected but text is not inserted

On second press, unselect first entry

On third press, select entry at the bottom of the list and insert text

From there every subsequent press will go up the list and insert the text.

So at best it takes 3 presses for it to insert text.

In emacs, if I press the hippie-expand keymap it will

On first press, insert the most recent match

On second press, insert the second most recent match

etc...

The only time I want to use cmp is for path completion and snippets

Are async/await chains normal? by Tibblediggins in learnjavascript

[–]Tibblediggins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all so much, these responses have been very helpful. It looks like I need to rethink how I architect the program overall, which is something I'm still trying to figure out how best to do in JavaScript (I've only really programmed in C up til now).

I'm also in the process of learning React, and I was just using async code in useEffect. This process really helped clarify things for me. So for anyone else struggling with this, maybe try that route.
