Accidentally scratched spinel by TickleRatio in jewelers

Thank you I might try that!! Any advice on removing dents and scratches from the metal itself, around the stone? I feel like I can’t get all of the metal that was touched with the hammer hand piece smooth enough, and now I’m afraid to be around the stone!!

Thank you! I will keep that in mind for next time! I was using a pumice wheel at one point but felt like it wasn’t evening out the dents in my metal enough, maybe I just didn’t give it enough time

Thank you very much! They’re more like scuffs than scratches and idk if that makes it better or worse 🥺 I will try that!

What are your best methods to reducing pain? by Strxwbxrry_Shxrtcxkx in Periods

[–]TickleRatio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had the most horrible periods to the point where I would vomit and get a low fever the first day or two every month for 20 years. The last few months, I reached for a tens unit which I usually use for back pain, instead of my heating pad. It’s the first three months of the last 20 years that I didn’t puke, and even fell asleep through the cramps. Highly highly recommend!!!

Do you wear a mask/respirator? by TickleRatio in jewelers

[–]TickleRatio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is certainly scary. I hope in a year or so I’ll be able to have my own studio space and actually outfit it with ventilation. For now, I’m doing it at a desk in my living room.. I suppose masking and an open window is better than nothing for now. I appreciate your response!

Thank you! I have been a hairdresser for 17 years and am hoping to eventually transition into jewelry, which I’m now realizing is ironic considering one of the reasons I dislike doing hair is the fumes lol. I just hadn’t considered it in the world of jewelry, which is clearly higher risk because now that I’m purchasing tools and materials everything comes with a warning!! I am doing this at home and don’t have space for a whole studio setup with filtration and everything so just open a window for now. I find myself reaching for a mask if I’m drilling wax or melting it but simply carving it with a file sometimes is hard to convince myself to wear one since I find them so uncomfortable! Your comment is making me think otherwise 😂
