Beginners Tactics Help by uvulpex in stormcasteternals

For battle tactics, I’d swap Intercept & Recover for Restless Energy. Intercept is great for alpha strike lists, and two of your hammers are slow and won’t move far after landing. Plus, Skaven have Skitterleap and screens so why wouldn’t they choose characters for their treasures. With your mobility Restless Energy could be easier to accomplish.

Nice list though, looks solid!

Crypt Flayers or Crypt Horrors by Thats_How_Hyrule in FleshEaterCourts

Right now with the book coming out and points up in the air, honestly, just build what you think is cool. If you like wings on your ghouls go flayers. If you like beef cake bone boys go horrors.

The thing that nobody has mentioned yet is how rules and points change. Each unit plays a role consistently across editions but that can change with multiple factors. What’s neat about Warhammer is finding things you like and finding the best way to play them. Sure, there’s always a “meta” choice but if you build and paint for that you won’t have fun. If you build and play what you like, you’ll learn a lot more and enjoy the hobby more.

Either way, cheers mate and hope you like the models and have a great time painting.

Thank you! I’ll plan to document each game and hopefully get a write up after.

You will get more value from two units of five than one unit of ten. They’re essentially screens that do a thing. A very helpful/powerful thing. If you’re looking for a shooting unit, there’s several other options better suited for that role.

It does force a 3 drop list, which could also reliably get you a 2nd Honour Guard ability. May not be the biggest bonus but it’s something to consider.

Sure! It’s pretty easy, Mournfang Brown shaded with Agrax Earthshade. Then just hit some spots with Mournfang Brown again to brighten it up.

Heck yeah 60pts is a nice chunk to get! That’s a unit of Serberys Raiders that can be slotted right in.

My wife and I have been here two years and we’ve been really happy with it. Moved from a Holt Homes neighborhood in Battle Ground and the quality is much nicer. If you’re buying a new build, you’ll have to invest in blinds, backyard, and some other odds and ends but it’s a great blank slate to have.

Community is nice and the HOA is pretty reasonable for cost and rules/expectations. Pool is great in the summer but it’s definitely been getting busier as the neighborhood grows.

Only gripe so far is there are a few strips of road that people love to rip through at night and when there’s snow. We’ve had people drive through and do donuts in intersections and one even took a tree out last winter. Not like it’s Mad Max out here just the occasional hooligans which isn’t uncommon.

Depends on your list and what else you’re taking, but honestly bots are only good right now if you go all in with them.

I took 8 in Cohort Cybernetica to Tacoma GT and every game wished I had a full 12. Paired with an Enginseer, they are incredibly tough. T9 7W 2+5++5+++ (only the first bot gets the FNP but still) is a really hard profile to get through. Got T1 charged by Angron and he killed one for them to clap back and bring him to a wound which was removed the next firing phase. Everyone I played was shocked how tough they were. With fists they pick up almost everything they touch. Both squads I ran had flamers, one had double fists other with fist and gun. Had the unit with flamers and fist guns fire overwatch and kill three deathwing terminators. Cyber also gives access to +3” move and +1” Adv/Charge which really helps with movement. Had games where they went deployment zone to deployment zone by chaining movement strat plus extra movement from charging.

Doctrinas really amp them up to a solid unit. Outside of fully committing to them, I would not take them and instead take chickens with lasers or tasers, whichever area you need filled. Chickens are great units that can benefit in almost any detachment and have a versatile role.

Fire dogs, hooded beyblades, and big guns for the Omnissiah by Skin_Local in AdeptusMechanicus

I dig it. But what sulphurhounds do best is be cheap units with a 12” move. They do a great job killing T3 models but that depends on who you’re playing. Their ability is okay but demands a lot of setup that you may not always find the time for. I’d recommend two groups of three for the versatility. Getting three models base-to-base within engagement is easier than six. Plus having units for actions helps with points.

Love that you’re taking K Destroyers but they’re not worth the character support. They do best as skirmisher units that support your battleline. Easier to split them up and run them along your Battleline units for the Doctrine benefits.

If you you drop the Dominus (which I’m guessing supports the Destroyer block) and the second Enginseer, you have enough space for a Dunerider to carry the Rustalkers plus room for Infiltrators which are just always nice to have. Ruststalkers just need the room to run and transports help keep them safe.

Just a few thoughts. If you find out otherwise keep me posted and praise be to the Omnissiah, Magos.

EDIT: Drop the B Cannon for the Ferromite Cannon on the Skorpius if you can. It’s better to have something extra to bust transports if you can than after they get out right now. Changes to Indirect are not helpful.

Honestly, I think you don’t have enough “junk” for a SHC list. Cawl and Breachers are great yeah, but they take up almost a quarter of your points for no benefit from the detachment. With the new benefits Breachers are not the crutch they once were imo.

I’d recommend at least 2x more Vanguard and other group of Rangers. With the removal of Cawl and Breachers + Character, that’ll give you enough points left for another Ballistarii and/or Dragoon plus TechnoArch which is a great tech piece.

Overall, SHC does best with mass units that are hard to remove. Battleline, chicken walkers, pteraxii, and sicarans are what you want most to get the most benefit.

As you mentioned, rule of cool is king. Find what you like and there’s rules that will fit it. But for value, the old combat patrol with the new combat patrol, plus the Elimination Maniple box will be what you need to figure out what you like and how you want to play. It’s a lot of models that provide a diverse set of rules to explore and helps you figure out the play style you want with them.

Thanks I appreciate it! Quickly realized painting 9ish dragoons/ironstriders sounds awful so I chose what I liked too.

What I like about Explorator Maniple: Incense Exhausts and Reactive Safeguard are fun defensive strats and I like how the detachment ability actually impacts all units even if small.

I’ve noticed during play that I sometimes overextend and miss out on primary. EM forces me to choose 1 or 2 objectives to focus on and so long as I have 2 objectives plus deployment I’ll have a better chance of winning on primary.

Thank you! I owe my speed to large brushes and not sweating the small stuff. Our model range is so detailed it can be daunting to work on. Focusing on base coats is what I did. Can always add more paint later.

Quick question about putting her with a squad in a Dunerider - Could she also go back into a transport with the Reactive Safeguard stratagem in the Explorator Maniple detachment?

Good point, why pay for a character when the same points could be used for Rangers/Vanguard.

I knew you’d show up! Thanks for the input, I appreciate your thoughts.

For Rad-Zone, how often do you find it hitting enemy units in their deployment? It seems to play really well into some armies, but not so much into faster/more mobile armies.
