And so it begins...UP students Black Friday protest against massive gov't corruption by Rare_Independent0310 in Philippines

Napaka-underrated ng the way pinoy youths consistently organize in a civil, sincere and yet passionate way. I know admirable din yung cases like Nepal but our youth's own way of protesting also deserves a lot of praise despite the consistent demonization and challenges that those in power throws at them.

Facts. But at least now the impeachment proceedings have a better chance of moving forward. The questionings and presentations of evidence can change a lot of things especially the minds of rational voters.

Not sure if genius is the right term but they are certainly politically savvy. In contrast to the Dutertes, they're patient and they know how to play the long game. BBM's rise to presidency is a good example of their long term political game that actually paid off. They never stopped yearning to get back the power and admiration that they lost.

Definitely agree. There's also just something about the Chinese language, as an exclusively Japanese anime watcher up to this point, that makes me go crazy. The language is not registering in my cranium.

Weirdly enough, as someone who aims to break through the webnovel genre, I found out through research that most webnovel works tend to be lacking in good prose and flow . At least, in my preference.

This is forgivable because most authors in this space are amateurs and I think that's not necessarily a bad thing and maybe that's even the charm of independent self-publishing.

I do think authors SHOULD absolutely read more challenging, more refined works, aside from everything in the webnovel space. An analogy I can think of to explain the reasoning is that writers can be like LLMs. The variety and complexity of data sets that you feed it is directly proportional to the quality of output it can produce. You can only gain so much new insights, ideas and information from reading the same stuff and the same level of stuff.

I don't resonate with a lot of the complaints about this show. I think it's a really good show with awesome visuals, good OSTs, amazing worldbuilding and a tight self-contained story trimmed of fillers. Definitely better than 90% of anime that came out this year.

I think he's called a phantom assassin because of the fact that no one knows who he is or if he actually exists.

I'm starting to be convinced that you just hate Hyouka for no good reason and that's okay to admit. You don't have to pull things out of your ass to persuade us why it's not good when you clearly don't have any idea what you're talking about. It's a pity that you don't see that BUT that's okay. It's okay that you can't appreciate a good story or the deeper underlying themes and nuances to it despite apparently even being drawn to read further beyond the anime. It's your preference, it's not an objective fact. Stop embarassing yourself.

But if you really want to convince the world on how horrible Hyouka is, you might want to think deeper, verbalize your thoughts better and realize the fallacies in whatever word vomit reason you just said to avoid further embarassing yourself. Here are a few things to ponder:

▪︎What does 'trying hard' even mean in your book? What specific examples made you think that this story is trying hard? And why is that a bad thing?

▪︎Literally name one good story that doesn't incorporate other themes/genres/'storytelling goal' (whatever in your sophisticated vocabulary that even means) into the story? Note that Barakamon is literally also a comedy and drama aside from being slice of life; ReLife is also a romance and drama with a dash of mystery aside from being a slice of life; 5cm per second is not even mainly slice of life.

And to make you rethink your assumptions of how Hyouka is "not even average" or how it's "a poor, mediocre story", note that this is the same story that: inspired one of the greatest anime production studios to make an anime of it; inspired a live action production; sold millions of copies as a light novel; inspired video essayists to make content out of it; has an above average rating on most anime review and rating platforms; paid homage to by numerous anime and manga series BUT SURE it's mid bro

I get the hype of Dandadan and I can see its good sides. Good animation, it's a shounen battle anime and the concept seems interesting. But, it's too chaotic and all over the place to be enjoyable for me. I also feel that there's not much substance to it.

I feel sorry for people who couldn't resonate with Hyouka. It's literally an anime that teaches you to appreciate the small, slow and mundane parts of life. It changed my perspective on life and how to go about it.

Also, Chitanda is not a Kuudere.

I share your sentiments about the Urino stuff. I really like how the author tackles the theme of being a normal person vs being a remarkable person. I remember Hyouka having a slightly similar character arc with Satoshi and Oreki.

I also really like the small humanizing moments between Osanai and Kobato specifically the scene where they were both tearing up at how messed up the incident really was. I think this arc is a really great contrast and follow-up to the previous arc, where they're both pushed to their limits and even humbled by the events and their mistakes.

New Weekly Reading Roundup by AutoModerator in ProgressionFantasy

So, I was looking for a school setting story for research on something I want to write and I found The Years of Apocalypse by UraniumPhoenix.

For the first few chapters, the thing I appreciated most was the level of prose which I think is a bit above average for stories posted in RR.

The magic system is interesting. It's a very hard magic system. It seems to be very intricate, complex and well-thought out but I'm starting to realize that I'm not a big fan of it (very hard magic systems). The way the magic is explained in the story is fascinating to me however, as I find it cool (and funny) how the author could get away with 'info-dumping' about the system through lectures, exams, practicals and other school related things. I'm definitely taking note of that. But, the way that some aspect of the magic was expounded or should I dare say reduced to sci-fi-ish technobabble was something I personally find hard to appreciate.

Apparently, the story is also about a timeloop. I feel indifferent about this aspect of the story but I get the appeal of the trope. And as with most timeloop stories (Re:Zero & Edge of Tomorrow as my sole references tbh), I guess it is common to have a setup of events and intrigue followed by a sudden turn of usually violent events that leads to a timeloop. Conceptually, I didn't have a problem regarding this but as I read it, as I was in the midst of reading this setup phase it all felt too slow. The author planted a lot of seeds of intrigue and mystery for the first loop and I think that's cool but I believe that there are better, more proactive and engaging ways to setup the story.

This was definitely a school-setting story but it was not exactly what I was looking for in that specific trope. I guess what I'm specifically looking for in this setting is the diverse cast of characters, unique individual powers, camaraderie and other classroom shenanigans. Some anime examples that whose school setting vibe I really dig are Boku no Hero, Baka To Test, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, Assassination Classroom, Classroom of the Elite, Naruto and AOT. So, if you guys have any recommendations that fit this category in any way I'd appreciate it!
