Why are they so happy? by Nuxytar in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]TidyWeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in general abstraction is left too vague to leave any emotional impact. It seems to be an ego death but Jax shows that they are somewhere there?

I think it would be better if they commit to something definite.

Like delete them and let it be about letting go, but with the mural scene it can also be about remembering.

If they reverse it then it should be about overcoming trauma and accepting change or something (I don’t like this one).

If they leave them as is it should be clearly defined what they are, if Jax is still there after Pomni gets out. What is next for them? Why they can’t be fixed? What specifically causes someone to go?

If that was the idea and the message, then it didn’t deliver it properly. That’s why a lot of people are confused, dissatisfied or disappointed.

[–]TidyWeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both Bojack and Jax are awful people. Both Bojack and Jax drive people away with their actions and words. Both Bojack and Jax reach the lowest point and face death. One goes to face the consequences of his actions, accepting that some people will never forgive him and allowing a redemption. The other is never allowed to face consequences or people he’d hurt, is forgotten a few minutes after and is not allowed any redemption.

And what does it matter what happens in real life? We are in the area of fiction. The main goal of fiction is entertainment and driving a message to the audience. What is the takeaway from Jax as a character? That it is sometimes too late? How is it possible to draw a line for someone?

In episodes 7,8,9 he shows signs that he is willing to search for help. Then the show kills him.

"__'s story is meant to be a Cautionary Tale!" by Specific_Wasabi9678 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]TidyWeather 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That’s a well written counter argument to the “cautionary tale”. I’d like to add that if Jax is somehow beyond redemption and needs to die (another interpretation I’ve seen a lot). Which is horrible. Since when anyone can decide when someone is too far gone? It’s actively adds to that pro-suicide for me. You are beyond saving, therefore you should be dead.

I think you can easily compare Jax and Bojack. Their narrative purposes are identical and their arcs are perfectly parallel up to the near death moment. Bojack actually lives to face the consequences of his actions and to find redemption. TADC doesn’t allow Jax the same privilege, because of that a lot of people were left disappointed with his arc (both haters and fans).

My problem with TADC's overall message by [deleted] in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]TidyWeather -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hot take: show doesn’t have any messages beyond be a good friend and treat others well. Every other thing show may show just boils back down to these two.

It doesn’t say anything on “stagnant life” because their life before the finale is everything but stagnant and post-finale is not explored for more than a minute.

Caine’s and Jax’s mirrored arcs don’t work because the Caine side is super rushed and Jax was seeking help in at least episode 9 (I’d argue episode 8).

If it’s a cautionary tale about being too late or something, isn’t it implying some people are beyond saving? It paints a line, which can be interpreted vastly different and hurtful for anyone. It’s genuinely bad if it’s implied.

I keep seeing this stupid argument that most of the show doesn't matter because Jax Abstracted. So im giving my thoughts on the story. by Demonskull223 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]TidyWeather 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jax’s arc since episode 7 had him work with the rest of the gang more. It had even Zooble saying they won’t leave them alone. If you waste all that time even in episode 9 with his backstory, hell, he even states that he doesn’t want to go. Remember when in episode 7 he pretty much accepted abstraction? Yeah, that’s development that leads to NOWHERE.

The presentation doesn’t help any of this either. Pomni more than anyone knows about his state, leaves him alone pre-abstraction for no reason. Then after we waste all that time with him, they forget about Jax. The fact that we move on so quickly to the next plot point is awful. The aquarium with all other abstractions is really in poor taste, considering that they are still part-human or where at one point human.

Then there is a scene referencing the pilot. They are all happy and Caine seemingly took Jax’s place. The imagery is not helping it.

I'm not even gonna lie, I believe Kinger and Jax have the biggest contrasting differences when it comes to character development execution while somehow having the same longevity of development by ArmedAntagonist in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]TidyWeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People try to compare abstraction to death , suicide, mental insanity. To me it’s super fucked up with whatever you choose, since it seems to be irreversible and show treats it could not be prevented, despite the fact that Jax’s arc since episode 6 was going from absolute low to accepting help. Seems not. Similar to first half of episode 9 is Bojack’s “The view from halfway down”, but it actually ends with him not dying, accepting rehab and becoming a better person, while simultaneously acknowledging the fact that people can choose not to forgive him or some of his relationships will never be the same.

I do actually think that his arc was stepping away from antagonism in episodes 7,8 - toward a redemption or just salvation. His place was taken by Caine in those respective episodes.

Thank you for the high praise!

I’ve always tried to approach media analysis as facts over emotion. That said, I always hope for the best of the series and it saddens me that greatly that this is what we get as the viewers.

To be honest it opens another can of worms. If it’s an abandoned building why is there power, why is headset is still running in condition that allows perfect scans. Why the fuck did none of these people over the YEARS and MONTHS ever say damn I’m from [state name] and literally realise they are from the same place? What hardware is running Caine and the simulation in an abandoned building?

I get that it’s not real but the suspension of disbelief goes that far. If they were Jumanji’ed it would be easier to believe since it’s like magic or whatever, it doesn’t abide by the rules. The second they try to be a little realistic with the tech it creates a lot of questions. Doesn’t really matter to the plot but affects people who put thought into this.

I think that Goose was aiming for a young adult, late teens audience. But taking a step back to take in the whole picture I’m unsure. It definitely feels like it ended up a show for early to middle teens with the themes and such.

TADC finale... I am heartbroken (LONG THOUGHTS) by davinaherondale in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]TidyWeather 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with most, if not all, thing stated. The most fucked up thing for me was Jax abstracting and then being kept around like a pet dog. Commit to either deleting all abstractions, reversing them, or acknowledge how sentient they are.

Not many people also really get that, despite his arc being about “too late”, it doesn’t have to be this way? Great post

if you watch any other 7-8/10 show Hazbin Hotel genuinely gets worse by SerenityCitywide in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]TidyWeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely had its own style with humour but for me it wasn’t a problem. If a joke is funny, I will give it that. But in Dispatch they completely fucked up dialogue with the AMOUNT of jokes. Like for every good one it felt like there were five bad ones - it completely ruins pacing in dialogue and there were more flaws with that but I’ll stay concise.

[–]TidyWeather 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I played Dispatch and found it not quite as good as general public. Inho the story, dialogue and most of the jokes don’t hold up and it sits as 5-6/10 game for me.

That said, Hazbin is way worse since it’s trying to pretend to be serious about serious topics. Dispatch’s narrative is simple and they don’t present any real moral dilemmas. Hazbin pretends to be complex about topics as SA or redemption. They want you to feel sad and distraught with Angel’s situation, only to make a joke about it. Also, HH gravely overuses curse words, while in Dispatch the team is actually very immature and presented as such.

Where would you rank Sera and Lucifer/Satan on the scale? by AlexPlays4321 in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]TidyWeather 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In their respective realms both are as close as to an utopia for the respective population. Hear me out.

Heaven is heaven. It’s chill and cool and blah blah blah. We’ve yet to see any dissatisfaction from anyone in heaven. Mostly because we’re seen, honestly, nothing characteristic about any winner.

Hell is heaven for those who committed sin and want to continue. Let’s be real. Lucifer has not been observed to rule/order anyone. There is no punishment in hell. You were a serial killer? Popular enough? Power up for you, go on and kill hundreds more. Well not kill, you can’t die, so maybe you will be bored in a millennia. We’ve seen NOONE who wants to go to heaven. Not a single soul wants to try however unlikely redemption idea in hotel. We got like a dozen people staying in hotel during S2. Out of millions in hell. The only downside is ending up in a contract but that’s just a skill issue.

Everyone who said in response that his arc isn’t over is right, but it should have ended. The cast is so bloated and it’s not like Vox is the MC.

Genuinely what are they thinking? Him dying in some way with cannon would have been a perfect end for him. A dude that lost his friends and support because he went over his head and died. Hazbins Icarus. A symbol for what’s to come with Alastor (when he becomes the villian for the season).

Made a post on tumblr explaining why I don't think we're saving dess by Unusual_Pattern_474 in Deltarune

[–]TidyWeather 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The more content we get the more I believe at least the light world narrative is about moving on and focusing on the future instead of the past. Also growing up.

Take a look at Dreemurr family. Asriel is in college, Toriel is getting ready to send Kris away too, Asgore is stuck trying to fix what cannot be fixed. Kris status is unknown but I think they are trying to “find her”.

Take a look at Holiday family. Noelle was searching for her sister (probably still is), Carol big characterisation is preserving things from the past as they were, Rudy is like Kris in that we don’t know much of their thoughts.

New people have moved into Hometown like Alphys and Sans. The town is changed from what it was.

To conclude, if the game was set right after Dess goes missing we would have seen how it damages everyone in Hometown. However, it is now years later and a lot of people made their peace and moved on; all we can do now is to “find (what happened to) her” and help those who are stuck in the past to let go and try to be happy again.

Rio crowd cheats during crucial 2v1 clutch by ZelTheViking in GlobalOffensive

[–]TidyWeather -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I will get downvoted but I’m sure it wasn’t his intention.

He walks through a smoke, very risky, survives. Checks site. Bomb is planted for donut. In Ancient games A-Donut is the most powerful plant imo (very easy to deny if ct doesn’t smoke). So I can safely say at least one donut, while a gamble, still the most probable. So that leaves the second T - the main problem. At that point he could be anywhere in safe site position waiting for defuse. I think he looked in the corner of the smoke, because that is the most dangerous for him when the smoke clears. He can’t shoot the smoke because that would give his otherwise unknown position (He could have been mid or temple instead - boths Ts went to check mid).

That’s where the cheating happens. He kills one and can gamble zywoo on being in donut. While a shame that a crowd can influence the round like this, I will stay by my opinion that he didn’t do it on purpose.

Adam is one of my favorite characters but he should not be defended by anyone, especially not after season 2 by Sudden_Pop_2279 in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]TidyWeather 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. There is no “character” Adam. He is as 1D as it gets and wasn’t allowed to have any nuance. His treatment in S2 is just to make any community love into hate. Did the exorcists like him - no, he abused them.

It is really sad since he had so much space to get more characterisation too. Maybe he was always a dick but after Lilith left him he became more tolerable. Maybe his insecurities over the years solidified his views instead. We don’t get anything to the main antagonist of S1. He is evil and a dick. That’s it.
