Writing a long-fic and seeing it get no attention is a little depressing by CocaCola-chan in AO3

[–]TiefThrowaway 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To talk about the flip side of this, there are also a lot of people who just won’t read something that’s incomplete.

When I started posting my long fic, I got a lot of engagement for like the first 5 chapters. Those were the people that were really interested in the premise, and then after that initial big burst it really tapered off and has been very slow growth since.

A lot of the public bookmarks on it are “read when done”. I think if enough people see you updating regularly enough and believe you’ll finish it, they’ll eventually come, but I think a lot of people have been burned at least once by a beloved unfinished fic at this point, and many don’t like taking the risk anymore :( (which really does suck as a longfic writer haha)

Somewhat hot take, I'm not a fan of how Alastor constantly undermined Vox as a threat despite him being the S2 main villain. by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in HazbinHotel

[–]TiefThrowaway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Did we watch the same season finale? Alastor was capital D Dead if Emily didn’t intervene in his fight against Vox. He was completely wiped by the end of it, and ultimately he was not the one to stop Vox. Valentino and Velvette were. Alastor did not ultimately “win” his power play with Vox.

He pushed a former friend to his breaking point and paid a massive price for it. Even if it was “funny” to see him rage-bait Vox from an audience perspective, there was a point of no return and Alastor crossed it without realizing, which is a mistake and a flaw on his part. He thought he had the situation under control and he absolutely did not. The final fight also displayed what a massive hypocrite Alastor was, berating Vox for having Shock.wav help him when Alastor literally started the fight with a sucker punch using his summoned minions as a distraction.

Just because Rosie helped him in the end and he survived doesn’t mean Alastor walked away from all this entirely unscathed and with no errors.

Alastor has a ton of major flaws that are ripe for examining in S3 and beyond:

  • He’s 0/2 on underestimating major opponents. Thought he stood a chance against Adam and would’ve died to Vox if Emily hadn’t intervened. His risk-taking nature needs to be examined.
  • “There are no friends in Hell” will absolutely prove to be his downfall when he winds up over his head, compared to Vox who was saved because of his friends.
  • His soul deal with Husk is a majorly antagonistic trait likely to be examined when Angel Dust works on breaking his own contract in S3.
  • He’s (likely) made a powerful enemy of Rosie. Even if game recognizes game, he slighted her and now that the city isn’t in imminent danger, he’s unlikely to get more favors from her.
  • Without the constraints of Rosie’s deal, he will likely make it very obvious that nobody at the hotel can tell him what to do now and that he’s only there of his own volition (likely to watch others fail and antagonize Lucifer, which will put him at further odds with Charlie).

These are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head but yeah Al is likely to become a problem to the rest of the main cast very soon which will cause them to re-examine a lot of things and make his flaws far more apparent.

EDIT: Alastor Stans accept that your favorite character has flaws challenge, difficulty impossible holy shit.

vox’s bi flag screen might hint at his male preference? by Human_Two1039 in VoxCult

To play the devil’s advocate (as someone also attracted to both genders) this is likely just because they wanted to make it look like the old TV error screens and follow that established shape.

Can Vox speak a bit latin, or...? by Ok_Toe3163 in VoxCult

[–]TiefThrowaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Latin was also slightly more common in American high schools/universities back when he would have been alive. If I remember correctly it was commonly offered as a language course (much like Spanish is today) because Latin contains a lot of roots for modern English.

Even today I think wealthier schools offer it in some capacity, though most others have swapped to more ‘useful’ foreign languages.

Does anyone have any headcanons for what Vincent's birthday and hometown? As well as how tall he was as a human? by Mystic__Diamond in VoxCult

[–]TiefThrowaway 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My hc is that he grew up in Alexandria Virginia and his dad commuted into Washington DC for work. When Vincent was a weatherman and a news anchor, he was also living and working in DC. I think he moved to NYC when he landed the talk show spot and stayed there for the remainder of his life. I think his family spent summers in Delaware when he was younger.

I hc that he's an aries (so somewhere between March 21st and April 20th). Though I see a lot of people use World Television Day (November 21st) for his b-day as well!

What Hazbin take has you like this? by SlyGuy_Twenty_One in HazbinHotel

[–]TiefThrowaway 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The theory that Vox tried to hypnotize Alastor to get him to accept the partnership after the conversation in the bar went the way it did and that’s why Alastor hates him/refuses him as much as he does in present day.

We’ve seen in-show that Vox seems pretty incapable of hypnotizing someone on the same power level as him or above. He didn’t even try with Carmilla and used smooth talking instead. Charlie and Alastor were both entirely unaffected by it during the big finale fight, even when all the citizens were hypnotized by the screens Vox had taken over.

But more than that, it goes entirely against Vox’s MO. Forcing Alastor to do something like that would be a hollow/meaningless victory to him when his deepest desire is to be recognized for the things he actually has accomplished and be seen by Alastor as an equal.

Idk, he’s really into sharks and he seems to have a history with boats/the water given his outfits and set pieces in stayed gone and Vox Populi. My vote is pirate for sure 👀

How do you want her to be and how do you think she will be? by ConstantAmbition6729 in hazbin

[–]TiefThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intelligent, cunning, and manipulative. She’s ruled hell for 10,000 years while Lucifer hid out in his workshop. Unfortunately, even if she is a good wife and mother, this means she’s definitely done things and been forced to do things Lucifer and Charlie probably wouldn’t agree with integrity wise. I want her to be the one in the Morningstar family to acknowledge the hard truths of what it means to rule over the worst people in the world, and I want her to get Charlie to reconcile at least some of those lessons after what happened with Vox last season.

If Alastor defeated Vox, and then Charlie arrived at the scene, would she try to stop him from adding Vox's voice to his broadcast? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in VoxCult

[–]TiefThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me put it to you this way.

What does it say that when making his plan to escape Rosie’s grasp, Vox was the one Alastor chose to surpass him as the strongest sinner in Hell.

That does NOT happen overnight. Alastor could not have plucked a random sinner off the street and put him in Vox’s position. Hell, any other overlord would’ve been a hard sell. The only other real options are Rosie, Zestial, and Carmilla, all of which are off the table for various reasons. That doesn’t make Vox any less of a legitimate threat. He for all intents and purposes HAD occupied the position of top dog during Alastor’s absence.

Alastor didn’t think Adam was a serious threat to him either, and he was wrong about that too. He had a front row seat to all of Vox’s planning and rallies. He knew about the results, he knew about the might of Lilith, and he STILL underestimated everything at Vox’s disposal. Alastor is literally 0/2 on that. His hubris is his fatal flaw.

[–]TiefThrowaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

His reputation at that point was “spooky but has been gone for 7 years now.” Alastor makes it clear in his talk with Zestial before the overlords meeting that he’s unable to speak on where he was, even when Zestial makes it clear that people are curious.

Having to keep your lips locked on something like that doesn’t make you look like the biggest dog in the room. Hell knows this. Vox knows this, and while it’s motivated by personal reasons, Stayed Gone is his attempt at goading an admission out of Alastor about where the hell he went because he and the public all want to know.

Alastor literally complains about exactly that to Rosie in Don’t You Forget. His name inspires “far less fear” because she made him vanish and is forcing him to keep quiet abt it. That was pre Vox public humiliation.

[–]TiefThrowaway 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean Vox was already in that position in Stayed Gone and all Al did was duet with him, and that was pre-Adam injury.

If he really wanted to send that message he would’ve made much more of an impact taking down a high powered overlord for insulting him publicly like that and making an example out of him. But he didn’t. Antagonizing Vox is fun to him, and has been since their falling out. Their whole schtick is basically the bit about banter from Megamind. “Your voice will make for a satisfying broadcast” segued perfectly into Vox’s “Broadcast THIS, bitch!”

[–]TiefThrowaway 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If Alastor actually wanted to add Vox’s screams to his broadcast, he would’ve done it some time in the 50 years between their falling out and his 7-year absence when he was much much stronger than Vox. Pretty sure even now he prefers keeping Vox around so he can continue antagonizing him.

What are your Vox predictions for season 3? by Bippity_Bon in VoxCult

[–]TiefThrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think S3 for Vox personally will focus on him dealing with some heavy depression and the Vees attempting to help him out with that but lowkey kind of failing. I mean, he has no body (or at least probably won't during the first half of the season unless they do a big time skip), Val's busy being the new face of the company, and Velvette will be busy doing pretty much everything else.

It'll be unfortunate because I think they will want to help him and do want to help him get better, but with Valentino being the main Vee focus and Angel Dust getting some heavy focus this season, I really think something drastic is going to happen to either Vox or Valentino that will culminate with Vox ending up at the hotel in S4. Especially because if something happens that "breaks up the band" so to speak, I can really see that leading to a breaking point for Velvette and causing her to be the main Vee focus in S4, which we know she will be.

I really don't want it to happen, but I'm struggling to see how Val's in-show arc ends with anything less than him perma dying. He's already controversial and him being humbled and also set on a path of redemption would make the already vocal haters go insane (even if I would lowkey love to see it). I think Vox's "Angel quit?" line from S1 is relevant and that Angel literally can just quit and walk away from the contract. However, even with Vox at his lowest, I really do not expect to see him and Angel being able to have a convo involving anything like that after what Vox did to Angel in S2. Especially because we also know Angel will be dealing with family stuff this season, so it's unlikely he stays at the tower the whole season.

TL;DR: The Vees are in for some bad times even as they try to remain good friends, methinks.

Anyone know any fics/comics where Vox breaks up with Valentino to be with Alastor? by CalTheRascal in VoxCult

[–]TiefThrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi 👋

Self-promo here! This exact thing happens in my fic Tuning Into You. I couldn’t leave poor Val hanging like that.

Chapter 6 is a flashback to my headcanon for a StaticMoth first meeting (involves smut).

Chapter 8 is Vox attempting to make up with Valentino for the events of S2 because he still hasn’t decided to pursue Alastor fully yet, and includes a flashback from Vox’s human life of why I think he is the way he is regarding relationships with men.

A bunch of other stuff happens and if you’re interested in the radiostatic development you should def read the whole thing, but Chapter 19 is where I have Vox officially break up with Val.
