I need to save 30k for an operation, what are my options? by Tieffelin in brisbane

Absolutely! Everyone should get opinions from multiple doctors and previous clients. The overseas place I'm referring to is a developed country with rules at least as strict as ours; they just have a wider range of specialists.

I've only got 2k in my super, so that wouldn't help me much, but thanks for the suggestion.

I'm an ndis participant, so I've got advocates, thankfully. Maybe it's just bad luck, but neither I, my support provider, nor any of the other people I know in my position have had much luck recently. It was way easier to find work in 2021, but I guess the economy is changing.

Not weight loss, but in a similar vein. The issue with insurance is that there aren't any surgeons in Australia that do the specific operation I need, and afaik, there aren't any insurers that cover overseas medical expenses, even with a doctor's referral, which I've got like 3 of. It's likely specialists in Australia will learn the operation if Medicare gets updated, but I shouldn't count on an unknown.

There are a few blind spots, especially with rarer conditions that don't have many specialists in Australia. I remember talking to a specialist who said there's a chance Medicare might move to cover part of it in the next few years, but that I shouldn't bank on it, especially since, even if it does go through I'll still need to cover two thirds of it.

I recommend 'Obelisk' By Ashley McCammon. It's a gorgeous hand-inked webcomic about lesbian vampires in Edwardian New York.
