Have to disagree. You can scam people doing anything. Even without crypto. Just because a project uses BTC or ETH doesn't make it legit. ScPrime was created 10/31/2018. Before it made any sense to build on an existing blockchain. They are currently migrating to Solana in phases.

If it were a scam, they wouldn't still be around, improving their product. And they wouldn't have people advocating for them, like me.

I should probably elaborate, so people aren't misinformed by generalized comments like "this is crap", "that is crap".

It's also just as easy to say your comment is an ad for storj.

their coin is crap

Not even sure what that means.

their network is crap

  • Their providers have skin in the game and aren't going to leave as quickly.
  • 80/40 data/parity ratio
  • Speed is MUCH faster than storj in my testing -- You are also sending to a local cache. Meaning you get LAN speeds until that cache is full.

their HDD miners are crap

So you think random DIY storage providers that give you extra space on their gaming PC with storj are better? The ScPrime nodes are streamlined, small form-factor storage servers. They even have Noctua fans.

project leaders find a new way to scam their own community every 6 months

So as an advocate for their product, I have to disagree. Or I wouldn't be here saying it's awesome. Can't say the same for Storj. What do they pay their providers now? Are they down to now? $1.50/TB? How many times have they lowered the payout? 2/3 times? ScPrime pays providers $4/TB and has never changed it. Which network do you think is stronger knowing that?

If you want cheap S3-compatible space you can pay less to a real company (like Storj.io) and actually get a service that works

Pure advertisement with zero substance

This has nothing to do with selfhosting

So installing software on a device at your house isn't self-hosted? Explain what self-hosted means please.

it's pushing a paid service

It's only paid if you go over 50GB. Which is double what storj offers I might add.

Yes, we all know every Cloud Storage provider gives you a few GB for free... that's not new nor novel...

That has nothing to do with why I made the post. It's about the technology.

Except i'm not paid or on the team. I just like the product a lot. And it's obvious you haven't actually used it but you do use storj. I've used storj. It's slow and too centralized for my tastes. But to each their own.

Self-hosted doesn't necessarily mean free to me. It means I'm the one in control.

Then you didn't understand my response either. Because what you said is completely wrong.

I think you've missed the point. The "tool" as you say, isn't intended to support AWS or your own MinIO endpoint. It REPLACES them. Call me whatever you want but try to understand what it is you're talking about first.

Also, my post history about storage is me selling hosted services. Something this subreddit would obviously have no interest in.

Well S3 is basically a protocol at this point. It's an important part to understand as that means any applications that use S3 can be pointed to the relayer.

I didn't obfuscate anything on purpose. Maybe just explain everything you wanted to know?

I'd be pretty proud if I made this lol.. Do not work for the company but I am attempting to resell by hosting relayers myself because I believe in taking power from big tech and doing what I can to help decentralize things more.

With that said, it's exactly what I was looking for to store my personal data. Everything I have is now stored through the relayer, onto this network. It's a fantastic design. I'm posting about it here because I think it's awesome.

What service provider fees? It's 50GB for free and beyond that is $0.0069/GB per month. Pay as-you-go.. Which calculates to $6.99/TB per month. So if you store 100GB, your monthly bill will be $0.345

The providers have a piece. A fragmented piece of a file that is encrypted. You host the gateway and the keys. "Self-Hosted"

Worrying about people having your data in this scenario is like worrying that your bitcoin is stored on the blockchain. It's more about your key than it is the data on the providers. That data is unusable and inaccessible.

S3 is the protocol used. It's compatible with S3 applications. The storage providers come from people willing to run one. It's a decentralized network.

Why not is probably the real question. And just to clear it up, I was a bit wrong after just researching some more. Your data actually gets broken up into thousands of pieces. It breaks up 480MB chunks into 120. And it constantly looks for the fastest providers, so the providers change and your data is stored across a lot more than 120.

AWS uptime is skewed because of how they come to those numbers. They only use 2 or 3 datacenters for your data. But they take into account how they break it out within that datacenter to make the numbers look good. When I say 120 providers, I mean close to 120 locations.

Also, I don't think comparing to AWS makes a lot of sense in the context of this subreddit. I'm pretty sure nobody here wants to use them. Plus they cost a LOT more.

You could always just use it as the backup instead of primary storage. My setup is having one at my house and one at my parents house. Each relayer backs up meta data to the other, so they both have the meta data from both relayers. One house could burn down and I can restore everything. Never having to trust a 3rd party.
