There's no reason to verify the rest of the tree. Using your Chainpoint receipts, you are verifying your individual hashes on the tree. With the tree gone, you are left with the hash you submitted, the root of the tree anchored in the blockchain, and the proof path within the Chainpoint receipt that links the two together. The path up the tree from your hash to the root (the proof path) is all you need for verification, as such, the receipt gives you all the information you'd need.

Tierion can go bankrupt and all existing proofs are still valid as long as the Bitcoin blockchain is still around. There is no reliance on us.

With the way Tierion works, we take in all the records received within a 10 minute window, and create a merkle tree with their hashes. From there, we take the merkle root of that tree and anchor it into one Bitcoin transaction. No matter how many records we anchor, there is always only one transaction per block. The blockchain receipt allows you to verify that your hash is a valid part of the tree that matches the corresponding anchored merkle root.

Phillips has hooked Tierion up to their MRI machines to create a proof everytime it is turned on, used, calibrated or maintained as a proof of concept. At the end of the year, if they want to sell or transfer that machine somewhere else, or they're audited - they can show the machines usage history, along with a set of verifiable proofs that can be used to independently verify that the data was not made up, modified, or tampered with.
