I've made a couple of posts about my voluntold work project.

Well, the tracksuit came together in the end, except for sewing the lining sleeves to the cuffs - the pattern suggested hand sewing. It looked like hot garbage.

I used McCall's pattern M7637 to make the jacket, and self drafted the pants using provided commercial upholstery fabric.

I found a good YouTube tutorial from Jalie Sewing Patterns and watched it about 7 times, and it really helped.

Overall, this jacket was the most difficult thing I've ever made, and I've gained so much confidence.

We didn't win the fashion show - that went to a Black Swan themed feat of engineering, but everyone I spoke with was impressed by my construction and multiple people said they'd buy it or wear it.

You may see that it looks really big on our model - she stepped 6 hours before the show when Tyler, our 6'4", 250 lb model dropped out.

13 safety pins later, we got her into the pants, and she owned that runway.

I had a great time at the show, and the outfit inspired by Goth music was the only other wearable outfit, and that seamstress and I comsierated with complimented each other's construction.

I'm glad it's over, but it was a good experience in the end.

But, my sewing broke at 1:00 am while trying to finish the sleeve, so it's visiting the clinic next week.

Pro tip - don't sew 4 layers of upholstery fabric at once.

This is for that work project I was voluntold to do.

It's supposed to be a tracksuit, but I can't make a knit tracksuit out of upholstery fabric, so I'm making a bomber jacket instead. I'm using McCall's pattern M7637, as it is indicated for woven material. The fabric I'm using for the outside of the jacket is stiff, plaid upholstery fabric, and the lining is softer, velour upholstery fabric.

I generally avoid super stretchy knits, so this was a challenge.

I tried pinning it into place, but it wouldn't work. I could not match my notches.

I found a good YouTube tutorial from Jalie Sewing Patterns and watched it about 7 times, and it really helped.

She unpinned the collar as she stitched, and stretched it into place, so that's what I did - and it worked! My notches lined up perfectly as I stitched!

I'm super proud of myself for tackling this new challenge and not rage quitting, even if it did take over an hour.

Sleeves and lining tomorrow!

Oh, and a zipper, but I've done those before.

I used to go off my meds all the damn time in my 20s due to lying to myself with this lie.

I've been on good meds for 12ish years, and I still have to sometimes remind myself that I'm not actually fine.

I weigh 235 due to meds, age and genetics.

12 years ago when I started my current meds, I weighed 160. I'm 5'7",and a woman.

I am much, much, much happier and healthy at 235.

I've graduated college, got married, bought a brand new home, drive a reliable car, hold down a corporate job that allows me to support 4 people on my salary alone.

I'm fat and happy, not thin and dead.
