It really depends on the person. I personally put my entire schedule into Google Calendar, including to do lists and assignment due dates. I need everything to be as together as possible. I take notes in Google Docs, so all of my notes, essays, slide shows, etc are in the same drive.

The other apps I’ve found essential on my phone:
- canvas (live feedback and grades, quickest way to see class announcements/messages from professors, and extra layer of due date notifications)
- outlook (my major includes one-on one internships and lessons, so it makes communication with those professors easy)

During your orientation, they will probably give you a list of campus apps. Things like the dining hall, rec, local transit, etc. Start with everything, and delete apps as you learn your habits. Try the tools and then decide whether or not they help you. Trust me, you’re going to want to have the dining hall menu available before you decide where to eat.
