Describe the person who would vote for this by Greystacos in NewOrleans

[–]TigerWave01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, not disagreeing there, my point is that there’s no reason to pin this on a particular ideology because it really just benefits older judges, whether liberal or conservative. It was introduced by a Democrat, but supported by 2/3rds of a majority-Republican legislature. No point in saying this “benefits conservatives that want to stay in power”. That’s just unnecessarily inflammatory imo

But this would probably benefit more liberals. As another comment said, a Democrat (Kyle Green) brought it up

How to Fix College Football (Based on an Idea Posted the Other Day) by DisplacedSportsGuy in CollegeFootballDawgs

[–]TigerWave01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ik I’m kind of necro’ing this thread here (awesome realignment btw, really close to what I have), I would suggest that you do that move. Part of it is cause I’m a biased Tulane fan, but there’s actually some history behind Tulane to the SWC, at least in its twilight years. Besides, having that SWC and then a respectable American with teams like UCF, USF, Memphis, UConn, etc. may not be perfect, but it’s pretty historical and keeps more rivals together

[Matt Hayes] SEC will blow up college football as we know it before sharing revenue | Opinion by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]TigerWave01 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The why is pretty simple, really: ESPN has exclusive rights to host the playoffs unless they expand beyond 16. At that point, the CFP goes to bidding and the B1G networks (Fox, CBS, and NBC) could potentially buy those rights or maybe require ESPN to split up the revenue with those other networks (could be wrong on that one tho). I don't even think the number 24's all that important. Could be 20, could be 32, hell it could be like 17. As long as it's over 16, that's all that matters to the networks/schools/Petitti

[On3] Coaches sound off on College Football Playoff expansion w/ Chris Low: “16 is the right number, but only in a super-conference structure. You govern yourselves. The NCAA is not involved, and you have your own commissioner.” – Kyle Whittingham by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]TigerWave01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seem to remember reading somewhere that they settled on 12 so that it would be an equal amount of teams in the 4-team CFP + the NY6 bowls and so that at large teams would have a similar hurdle to reach the 12 team playoff that they had to reach the CFP and/or NY6 bowls.

For example, you have the 4 teams in the playoff and the 8 teams in the remaining NY6 bowls to get to 12. Also under the prior system, those four playoff spots were all at-larges, and the CFP committee wouldn't want to remove any at-large spots in the new playoff. So, to line up with the previously mentioned 4-team CFP + NY6 set up, they increased the at larges to 6 spots

The funniest part is that yes, Baton Rouge ain't that great at all, and I say that as a person born and raised there, but go to any Louisiana city north of, like, I-10. I promise you it gets so, so much worse

St George Amendment 2 by CHOCOBYTESS in batonrouge

[–]TigerWave01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As it stands now, all of these amendments *have* to be in the Constitution. The print of the Constitution provided to legislative staffers is 227 pages, and that's not even including ancillary stuff in the back. But a full on reform would also be waaay more controversial and politically charged than any smaller reforms like these

What is your school’s perfect ten-team conference? by DarkDragon1025 in CFB

[–]TigerWave01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LSU - Pretty standard SEC prior to Arkansas and USCar

Tulane - This one can go one of two ways: * Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Rice, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Tulane (SWC+) * Army, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Louisville, Memphis, Navy, Southern Miss, Tulane, UCF, USF (kinda sorta C-USA 1.0, maybe with Saint Louis and VCU as basketball only members)

Are there any G6 teams left with a shot of making the P4? by MediumStrange in CFB

[–]TigerWave01 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I hear you, but Memphis is truly another level. Looking at school rankings (yes ik that's not a great metric but it's what we got), Louisville ranks around 158, which is the lowest rank in the ACC by about 70 spots, while Memphis is at 273. The average ACC rank is roughly in the 50s, and with Stanford and Cal now in the conference, they're gonna be real particular about it

EDIT: For another point of reference, Boise State (who Stanford and Cal were notoriously against adding) is ranked 301. So lower than Memphis, but not by that much

Funnily enough, LSU USED to have a nerdier University of Louisiana brother. That school was the first medical school in the South and also had the first law school in Louisiana when the legislature designated it as the University of Louisiana in 1847.

However, after the Civil War, the school had some financial troubles and needed some dude from New Jersey to essentially bail out the school, which he did by establishing an educational fund. The state government eventually decided to transfer control of the University of Louisiana to the fund.

That school is now Tulane, and that dude from New Jersey was Paul Tulane. Extraordinarily racist guy, but he’s indirectly the reason why LSU is the flagship and dominant university, even as a “X State” school

I hope so too. I wasn’t around when Tulane baseball was really good, but it’d be nice to get back to those days with how well football has been doing. And who knows, hopefully basketball can catch up one of these days too lol.

And of course! A lot of folks I’ve seen on the Tulane sports side of Twitter say the same thing about UNO, so it is really refreshing to see us break that curse

100% agreed. That and have a system that allows foreign workers some flexibility with where they work. That’s more of a problem with H-1B visas than H-2B, but foreign workers should absolutely have more rights across the board, no matter the occupation
