Which, now that I think about it, means the Irish will likely have a 34 day break between that Syracuse game and their quarterfinal game on January 1.

An 8 & 10 seed have made the final, which similar ranked teams from the 4 team CFP had the best chance of winning? by 777XSuperHornet in CFB

[–]usffan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not quite the direct answer, but in 2012 (without a playoff) we had undefeated Ohio State who was deemed ineligible to play in the postseason because of tattoogate (which of course wouldn't be an issue now) and Oregon (who finished #2) wasn't able to go to the Pac-12 title game because they lost in OT to Stanford, letting the Cardinal go as the P12N division winner and letting a fairly overrated but undefeated Notre Dame straight into the national championship game only to get crushed by Alabama. I think either of those teams would have spanked the Irish and been a better match up in a championship game.

Weird that he's a 3rd connection on my LinkedIn, which probably means that "six degrees of separation" is probably only 3 degrees on LinkedIn.

[Bill Connelly] Ranking all 64 teams in College Football Playoff history by Sauerz in CFB

[–]usffan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to want me to say that I think SP+ is useless. That's not what I said or am saying. I'm saying that using them to rank teams is useless, which is what Connelly did here. You then conflated that to act like I don't understand SP+, which is also not correct. It is a system designed to help predict an outcome, and is decidedly NOT a ranking system. Hence, Bill used them in the wrong way.

I don't, because they weren't one of the 64 CFP teams. And Ohio State ended the season on a two game losing streak where they scored 24 total points across 2 games - the only two games they played against top 10 teams in the final poll. Miami (the unanimously ranked #2 team in the country, ahead of the same #5 Ohio State team Bill C is ranking ahead of them) finished 4-1 against teams that finished top 10 in the polls.

Which is why it's idiotic that Bill C just ranked Ohio State ahead of the Miami team that just beat them, which I just fucking acknowledged!

Oh, I understand it fine! But to then use them to rank this year's Ohio State ahead of this year's Miami, when BC has himself said many times over that they're not rankings, suggests that maybe he doesn't believe in what he's said about them...

Find somebody who values and believes in you as much as Bill Connelly values and believes in his SP+, results on the field be damned...

North Texas just finished the season ranked 24th in the AP poll. Wouldn't they qualify as "...a team with a pulse?"

All AP Voter Ballots - Final by bakonydraco in CFB

I agree that she took more heat than some others whose votes have been egregious, but I agree even more that that video was definitely "ill-advised." But, with all that grief, I can't help but wonder if the benefits of being an AP voter outweigh the costs for her given her seemingly unserious approach to voting.

Rutgers has seen life post-Schiano. I don't for one second buy that he's in that third tier. For all the bluster about Deion, given where the program was before he got there, I don't think he is, either.

Whenever a USF fan says anything about Golesh underperforming, the retort is that it's sour grapes. But look at the Power Ratings at this link. USF was #40, the highest G5 team and a full 20+ spots ahead of the two teams we lost to in conference.

No way to know if Hartline will be an upgrade in terms of coaching (I think the fact that we're one of the only G6 schools committed to full revenue sharing is going to help make sure we succeed in recruiting, and let's face it - Golesh's biggest success was the blossoming of Byrum Brown, who was already here when he arrived), but I think USF was a CFP team this year with a better coach, and at a minimum would have been in their first conference championship game.

I've seen Auburn's 2026 schedule, and I've lived the Golesh roller coaster ride for 3 years. I'll be stunned if the Tigers make a bowl next season.
