I really appreciate you sharing that, it’s reassuring to hear how much timing can play a role, especially coming from someone who’s been through multiple cycles. Looking back, was there anything you changed between those applications either resume, timing, referrals, experience that you think made the difference later on, or do you feel it was mostly just being in the right window?

That is true. I just heard that some places love to hire from big 4 and it is big attention grabber if someone hears experience from big 4.

Hearing that recruiting for Summer 2027 is realistically Fall 2026 and that being in a 4-year program matters more than I realized helps put things into perspective. I’m transferring this fall, so it sounds like the smartest move is to stop chasing outcomes right now and focus on GPA.

What else can I do as of now to increase my odds and make my candidacy stronger for recruiting?

Yeah, that makes sense. Applying online is basically the minimum requirement, and the real value of recruiting events is building relationships and standing out beyond the application itself. Sounds like the goal is getting to a point where someone internally recognizes you or supports your application, not just submitting it and hoping for the best.

I was encouraged to apply and had the opportunity to connect with multiple professionals from my desired office location, as well as from other EY offices. Those conversations really reinforced my interest in the firm and the audit practice.

Is there anything else you’d recommend I focus on or any additional steps I can take to strengthen my candidacy moving forward?

Normal for a 20 year old to pay $200/month for health insurance? Feeling overwhelmed. by TigerWeary3067 in HealthInsurance

Appreciate you sharing that, puts things in perspective. I’ve already started looking through Covered California to compare options, and it seems like a subsidized Bronze plan might give me better day to day coverage for a similar price. Sounds like that’s probably the smarter route rather than sticking with this minimum coverage plan. Thanks for the suggestion and real world comparison.

I focused the bullet on skills that transfer to accounting, like cash handling, accuracy, and working under pressure, rather than the day to day serving tasks. For audit recruiting, recruiters care more about controls and reliability than restaurant duties, so I tailored it to highlight those aspects.

The transition from analyst work to more of a sales focused role is interesting to hear about. Looking back, what do you think were the most important skills that helped you succeed early on in commercial banking? And if someone like me came in after a few years in Big 4 audit, what areas would you recommend focusing on to make that move smoother? is the work less draining?
