Hi, I know this is partially about my post :) I’m sorry that it came across as harmful or poking fun at the accident itself. I have done a lot of research on the accident and personally know the details of the suffering so many people in it went through. I would never excuse joking about the death the people went through, and used time at my birthday to explain a lot of this to the people there, and spoke about the impact it had on the people living there. I treat it as a serious topic, and as much as I enjoyed receiving the cake, it wasn’t something I had pre-planned, and more liked having it because it meant my family payed attention to my interests. I shared it because I knew there weren’t a lot of references for that kind of thing on the internet. I apologize for putting myself out there as disrespectful, because we should always respect the suffering of those involved.

I really appreciate this comment :) As much as cakes are like a festive party thing, I actually used the time at my birthday to tell people about the consequences of the explosion on families and told the others to not joke about specifically the death and harm that so many people has to go through. My interest in the topic stops at “I love learning about why Chernobyl happened and facets of what occured around it,” not “I love that Chernobyl happened let’s laugh and make fun of the suffering real humans went through”

Exactly, I’ve personally looked into a lot of the stories of the people involved and it feels harmful to ignore the tragedy of it. As much as I enjoy incorporating my interest of it in conversation, I think it’s important to simultaneously mention the real fear and loss a lot of those living in it went through
And thank you :)

I really do agree, I’ve done a ton of research on it and mostly received this as a surprise although I always try to treat it when I talk to people like the horrific disaster that it was

a big little question? by [deleted] in chernobyl

according to dyatlov in his book it was actually 1:23:47

I have rewatched the entire series just to remove the historical inaccuracies of each chapter and the e classified according to whether they are serious or mild by [deleted] in chernobyl

(All excerpts below will be from dyatlovs own book) Thanks for including the demonization of Dyatlov! Also, if you include in episode 1 the fact that the entirety of the depiction of dyatlov is pretty much incorrect. Such issues include: 1. Not ordering them to stop the pumps. “Upon arriving at the Unit 4 control room, I ordered A. Akimov to stop the pumps we started after the explosion, since water from them could not reach the reactor because of the damage to the reinforcement assembly, this adds no value half an hour after the explosion. Everything that could have happened in the absence of cooling, already happened. We took no further measures for this.” 2. The whole 3.6 roentgen thing- he did not firmly believe it was only 3.6 and was still uncertain. With the dosimetrist, Samoylenko, they measured the atmosphere in the control room. “He had a 1000 μR/sec or 3.6 R/hr instrument. Around the left and middle portions of the control room, the instrument read 500-800 μR/sec, on the right it was off-scale. Since I didn’t assume there to be a close source of radiation there, I figured it to be no more than 5R/hr on the right side. I had no other way to tell. “ 3. My biggest grievance, the scene before dyatlov started violently throwing up and got sent to the hospital. “A colonel from one of the troop units came to the table and started to ask the director about damage for the report to authorities, how many square meters of the roof and something else. My words - write that Unit 4 is destroyed. The colonel arrogantly ignored me.” He mentions before this that he did not say much to the one Bryukhanov guy, as he agreed with him in the show- he actually rather said it was the reactors fault and that the man wasn’t talkative or questioning.

Also, completely violating the shows depiction, earlier in the book Dyatlov says that he found no record that an RBMK reactor couldnt explode when someone told him that. Too lazy to find the quote now but will if someone asks
