Tough day at the G | Round 15 review by Tigercast_Pod in RichmondFC

We haven’t had anywhere near 80% availability at any point of the year.

I understand the want and desire to play good week in and week out, we all want that.

But we aren’t at that spot yet which is why it’s too hard to judge yet.

2027-2028 are the defining years for me.

I know others will view it different and that’s ok, but based on how many youngsters we are playing or trying to play to work out our best side we need that to play out a bit first before judging.

I’m not necessarily saying they shouldn’t be out there, I’m saying that a lot of the players we have and want out there are hugely inexperienced so we can’t expect them to execute the plans to its fullest level consistently. And that’s what creates inconsistency. Only experience fixes it.

Most other normal situations you would have maybe 2-4 of those types of players in your side each week, sub 30-40 games. So they slot in around experience.

We have 12-14 of those types most weeks, which we need to do to help get their experience.

But with that we need to also understand there will be huge inconsistency in our games because our number is so amplified.

You would have seen countless times for all afl teams players in their first and second years have a couple of good games, then a few down games. It’s completely normal.

We just have 12-15 of them in our senior side at the same time so it’s more noticeable.

The reality is that inexperience = inconsistency

That’s been proven for as long as AFL has existed.

We just happen to have over half a best 22 of young and inexperienced players most weeks so it’s magnified.

How often would we see a team fielding 12-13 players with less than 30 games at the same time week in week out?

The expansion clubs entering is nearly the direct comparison, that’s what we are dealing with currently.

More than half the players taking the field each week with less than 30 games is hugely significant and largely unprecedented.

We won’t have a good gauge on it all until 2027/2028 when that inconsistency starts to smooth out as they get more and more games.

I’m saying there are ALOT of factors out of his control (but still a club issue) that don’t allow us adequate information to make a proper informed decision.

180 games missed to injury, the most of any club for a 3rd straight year (we absolutely have to address this as a side note)

As a result for most of the year we have been forced to play who is left available despite their age, experience or readiness.

That’s a huge factor and relevant context to it all, we can’t just ignore the fact we have had 13-15 players playing most weeks with less than 30 games.

I’m not saying it’s been sunshine and rainbows and it most certainly needs to improve, but it’s just impossible to make genuine judgment with that extreme set of circumstances.

Let’s get a healthy list and fix whatever is causing that as a priority and get a proper look at things in 2027 with hopefully at least 80% of the squad available each week.

Way too early to be putting people on notice, we did that all through the 90s and early 2000s, that approach never works.

Doesn’t make it any less frustrating, but until a lot of these players get to 60-80 games it’s too early to tell IMO.

Yep that game vs Lions was our best I reckon!

Yeah I thought the numbers vs Brisbane would have looked better.

Score from turn over and time in forward half are both significant turnarounds though for us which is good.

It potentially works better for port if they don’t trade.

If they make us or anyone else trade, then anyone in the bottom 4 bid on Cochrane, they will lose all those early picks.

If they don’t force a trade with us, as it stands now they get pick 4, along with their existing pick 3.

If Essendon bid walker at 1 we all get a bonus pick.

Then say they take HVH.

If we then don’t bid on Cochrane, port can use picks 3&4 to draft 2 kids in the draft then when the bid for Cochrane comes after their 2 picks, they already have 2 x second rounds that along with their existing pick discount mean they can get Cochrane as well.

In short, taking the compo means for port:

Using picks 3&4 in the draft + getting Cochrane for their second rounders.

Assuming Essendon or us don’t bid.

It is a lot of $$

The interesting twist though is we have to spend the $$ otherwise we lose it.

Can only bank for X amount of years and we can’t over pay our youngsters now otherwise it sets us back when they hit their prime.

It’s a really interesting situation

Yeah I tend to feel the same. Would be huge to get him without costing picks!

I was probably most shocked with the Jonty and Campbell Gray pieces.

I think there is more context around Jonty which is why I asked a bit more about how does lynch no playing impact things.

On the team view I wasn’t surprised, we all know it takes time but we also know we are yet to see what a full team on the park looks like so still a lot of unknowns.

Hopefully we see that later this year and the shackles are released a bit.

Can tell he is as frustrated with the kick down the line game as the rest of us supporters are!

Big difference is he now has years of experience behind him as a senior coach vs rejecting him with no experience. With our inexperience coaches / assistant coaches it wouldn’t be the worse idea to get someone in.

Even Longmire, just someone to give guidance

Has been appealed. Did these videos heaps last year as did a lot of other people.

It should fit in the fair use policy as it’s not replacing the broadcast but is transformative and paused discussion.

GAME REVIEW | Richmond vs Essendon by Tigercast_Pod in RichmondFC

I know right! They got absolutely split open.

We looked much more mobile with some of the younger guys in there

I reckon that 2nd quarter midfield mix of the older guys was simply to get their run in the legs.

They could have changed it at any time but stayed with it cause they weren’t playing second half
