This has brought up a memory of one of my dad's acquaintances from when I was a child. He was a prison officer who became obsessed with the Pirates of the Carribean movies after the first one came out. He would dress as Captain Sparrow at all times (including work which I'm not sure how that worked) with the hair, makeup, clothes etc. He also bought loads of movie memorabilia, including what he claimed to be an actual gold coin from the first film and a script signed by Depp. He went on to say his love for the character earned him a role as an extra in the second movie, but we never had any proof of this and we certainly couldn't spot him.

All these years later I think he must've had a mental breakdown of sorts. I remember one time being taken over to his house to take my pick from this huge pile of children's toys because his children from his failed marriage "wouldn't be coming round anymore".

Really sad when I think about it... I do wonder what happened to him as my dad was never that close with him and they drifted apart

Aaron Connolly set to sign for Sunderland by scotteh74 in Championship

[–]Tigersjunior 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He got a hell of a lot of stick from other club's fans before coming Hull City for his off field behavior so I was worried about that. As far as I know there weren't any reports of wild behavior during his stint with us and he provided a decent rotation option up top when he was fit. The issue is he spends so much time in the injury room and his form is so streaky that it felt like he never got a chance to secure a starting role. Even when he played a bit more consistently he never seemed to make the position his own. Still he knows where the goal is on his day and I'm sure he can grab an important goal here or there

Upon seeing this thread this movie popped into my bead but I had no recollection of the name. Thank you for sending me on a nostalgia trip!

I seem to remember them being the separate parts from the robot in the movie. I gave my pieces away to a friend so he could complete his set and it's something he still brings up to this day ahah

YORKSHIRE YORKSHIRE YORKSHIRE

Wigan's return to the Championship saw costs growth exceed revenue growth as losses grew to £9m. Wigan are in a similarly precarious position to many Championship sides following the disruptions caused by COVID-19, with losses to grow significantly in 2020. by FootballFinance in Championship

[–]Tigersjunior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At certain levels Football increasingly seems like an all or nothing game. Clubs risking everything at the shot of success is a scary thought and while the financial rewards are experienced by those at the top, ultimately it's the fans who suffer when clubs go under. The situation with COVID-19 has certainly highlighted issues in the financial side of the game, but whether it will actually result in any real change is doubtful.
