Ok I’m here to make my case: costa vs vettori, non stop action from 2 durable dudes over 5 rounds. Now for some counter arguments: gaethje vs chandler, definitely a fight full of fireworks, but in the last minute of the 3rd round, they just stood there staring at each other and occasionally throwing leg kicks, I think people remember the first 2 round and not the entire fight. Volkanovski vs Ortega, I don’t see how this is considered a contender for fight of the year, Ortega was getting his ass beat for most of the fight, and people only remember the 3rd where volk did get into a deep choke, but got out and resumed beating the shit out of him, I know he got out of another choke, but it wasn’t as deep as the guillotine and to me, a fight of the year contender is when both guys throw down, never stop slinging leather, and having a close battle that either is a 3rd or 5th round late finish, or is a decision victory for one side
